I did phone PremierArt today, and spoke directly with a very helpful staff person. He said that E number is indeed the lot number, which they use for internal purposes. And he did say it's possible for there to be some slight variations in the lots. I appreciated his candor and honesty. I can see where this paper business is not an exact science, although I'm sure they take every precaution. I'll certainly continue to use it, in fact it's about time for me to send in another order. I usually go to Atlex.

Also found out they are indeed continuing the manufacture of the Fine Art Smooth 205gsm. For a while there was a rumor that this paper was being discontinued - no, he said, this is a very popular paper. So that was good to find out.
