You are correct Jeff. Swapping inks on the 1430 is very easily done. I would strongly suggest that if you buy another 1430 that you consider buying an extra set of carts and filling the carts with a flush solution of some kind. When changing from one ink set to another it is a simple matter to facilitate the change by removing one set of carts, inserting the other set with the cleaning solution and running several cleaning cycles, and then installing the new set of carts with a different ink set. In addition when hibernating the printer it is a good idea to remove the carts with the current ink set and store the printer with the carts having the flush solution. I guess that it points to the printer or operator error. I really want a printer that I can hibernate or easily swap inks so I'm thinking that another 1430 is the way to go. The printers with ink lines are just too expensive to run that way. Epson has done us no favours with the current printer selection. > > > I could look for a used printer but a quick perusal of the IJM forum, and my own experience with an old 2400 lead me to believe that new is the way to go with 3rd party inks. > > Cheers, > > Jeff > www.jeff-grant.com > > > Facebook: Jeff Grant Landscape Photographer > >> On 5 Jul 2015, at 9:17 am, 'Dr. Elliot Puritz' drpuritz@... If one buys OEM carts and inks then obviously the carts are replaced every time one buys new inks. I know that site and have ordered empty refillable carts from them for my 1400. I first started refilling carts using supplies from MIS for my R1800 and they do recommend the adapter on a syringe to withdraw about 1cc of ink, and then insert the refill plug. The idea apparently was to create a slight vacuum in the cart and prevent leakage. The air vent remains open.. >>> >>> When I bought some carts from IJM on the other hand, their instructions do not mention withdrawing ink from the bottom of the cart. >>> >>> I've not had leakage from either method. Hard to know who to believe! I tend to think withdrawing that 1cc is probably the best approach. Any leakage I've had (and I have had that happen) I attribute to worn out seals in the refill port on the bottom - then it's time for a new cartridge. >>> >>> My $0.02, >>> >>> Paul >>> > >
