Paul, The Raytoc scsi to firewire is , I think, the best. All of these things have pretty much stopped production and the scsi to firewire chip is no longer made. Belkin made one also but it wasn't as good I understand.. You are after one that has switchable parameters to deal with system or software issues.. I just searched eBay and their is one out there.. 350.00 ...Here's the url http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ratoc-FR1SX-Firewire-to-SCSI-adapter-/330950295349?pt=US_FireWire_Cables_Adapters&hash=item4d0e2cbf35#ht_735wt_1213
If you want to run a new OS and system this is the path you need to take.. The other option is to just keep an older computer going to run it.. If you move up to an LS5000 which is USB .. and you want to run WIN 7 or OSX Leopard you'll need to use Viewscan or Silverfast.. Nikon Scan 4.0.3 does run on Vista and OSX 10.4.3 ..I know it does not work on OSX 10.5 and Win 7..
So it's choices based on how you want to end up.. A little coaching on the Raytoc.. FR1SX ..If you can afford one it's as a good a place as any to have a few bucks sit .. Their's a lot of 20k scanners and scan backs out there that use them. I have a Betterlight 8k back and we were lucky as the owner of Betterlight gave us all a heads up that these things were going away so many of us picked up a few. I've seen them for over 400 bucks.. Anyway maybe not the best news but at least you have choices..

Thanks Tina,
But do you use some sort of adapter to get from the scanner's SCSI cord to your computer?
