Re: Dan Culbertson

2013-02-08 by John

So sorry to hear the news. Got this news from him January 25th. The eternal "optimist".

"Real nice down here John. (meaning Gainsville, FL) But I'm unfortunately all tied up in hospice so I'm not really enjoying it as well I should. Fortunately this is just a temporary set-back after they ripped out my L5 vertebrae to replace it with a couple titanium rods and screws and a stack of bone chips. Once it all grows back together I should be free to do light duty stuff - like art and light camera work rather than heavy gardening. Certainly no yoga here!!

Dan was an early experimenter with the first quad tone inks available when few could figure out how to print with them. All of my early knowledge and craft accumulation is due to his work, generous sharing, intelligence and relentless curiosity. I'm quite certain many were watching his posts and his presence is felt not only in the nature of the products we use, but the non OEM culture represented here and elsewhere.

Mastering dots of ink on paper feels pretty silly in the face of larger life and death issues, but the humor, intelligence, relentless pursuit of perfection, and generosity he expressed in these efforts help define a wonderful man. I just wanted to note his passing here.
