If the tape load works, then so will the tape backup, so dump the sounds to tape, change the battery, and reload them afterwards again. Rescue tape? Feh!

Mike, If you still have sounds, you should be able to save all of the data at once. The old synths used to save an audio file to a cassette tape recorder.
