Kick drum not sounding at times?

Kick drum not sounding at times?

2004-06-06 by Kevin Richard

I noticed that my kick stop making sounds but I had been messing with
some other triggers and figured I had bumped something. I went
looking at it was registering all the way up to 99% and the volume
was fine???? So I turned it off and back on (being a computer nerd I
understand the value of a reboot ;) Now it's working???? I've had
it happen to me 3 times in basically 24 hours?

Anyone else get this?

BTW, this is a DTXpress III.

Thanks in advance,
Gilligan

Good morning, Gilligan. If the pad registers gain while it is mute,
the problem would have to be at the output stage. Personally, I'm not
aware of that ever happening. If, however, the pad is registering
gain only when the pad is actually firing--even sporadically and
elliptically--any number of things could be causing the dropouts.
Physically, something could be loose or damaged on the board, or the
foam behind the pad could have recessed too much (which shouldn't
happen yet). As for settings, self-rejection could be too high, or
rejection from other pads--which is unlikely, since the kick is
isolated naturally from the other triggers and so not liable to have
needed any such interference from you in the first place.

The first thing to do, for the sake of completeness, is try another
cable. Then try a different pad through input 1 to eliminate the
electronics. Then exhaust the trigger-settings possibilities (pad
type, gain, min. vel., rejection). If these don't get you anywhere,
the kick is probably at fault. Rather than try to fix something new,
you should be able to get another one, either through your dealer or
Yamaha directly. Could you check back when you've gone through the
round of troubleshooting?

Well I know it's an output thing because the first time it happened I
could see that the trigger was responding and registering.. I was
ONLY hitting the kick trying to figure this out.. this is factory
default settings so it shouldn't be any rejection stuff. Next time
it comes up though I'll be sure to swap pads and such just to be
thourough.

One problem is that I bought it used so I don't know how
good "warranty" is now... but I'm pretty sure my local dealer would
swap me out with their demo and claim that it came from the factory
that way. :)

Thanks for the reply,
Gilligan
