y splitter leads in UK

y splitter leads in UK

2004-04-19 by William Sutherland

It's been really interesting going back through the archives - but I
can't see any mention of a UK source of the much discussed y
splitters (although at least now I understand what I'm looking for!)

Same for a general internet search...

However I did come across this site if anyone else is having the
same problem - it seems to be a Yamaha keyboard club, but the nice
lady who answers the 'phone took the order and noted down the name
of my 'keyboard' :-)

http://www.yamaha-club.co.uk/access_05.html

I've ordered a 'BCK-2JSJ' which sounds like it might work, we'll see
when it comes.

Failing that anyone know where I might find the real thing?

Many thanks,
William

William,

The one at your link is the right idea, but I'm not sure from the
description that the plugs are 1/4" phonos (I don't speak mm very
well). For instance, the item immediately above actually states that
the leads have phono plugs. If you end up getting the wrong ends, you
could always get three adaptors to the correct ones. Thomann has a
suitable splitter at http://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/thoiw2_artikel-
148009.html, though it's always better to have the two mono female
ends so that you can be more flexible with the length of the cables.
Just one more reason why you should move to the states (big grin; no
pressure).

That seems to be the fellow. Except it's a whole pound cheaper from
the supplier direct:

http://www.bck.co.uk/htm/Cables.htm

And there's a seller on eBay doing them - item # 3718252811 (not a
personal recommendation).

I can't for the life of me remember where I got mine. I thought it
was either Maplin (can't have been - theirs is only 20cm long!) or
Starland (can't find it there). Ho hum. Old age strikes again.

thanks Ed,

I did look on Thomann's but missed that - I'll see what happens when
they come.

We live in a strange dual mm/inches world in the UK - it's just over
25mm to the inch so I guess the plugs will be 1/4" (it's just that
we're not supposed to use inches anymore... sheesh).

20 years ago I had an invite from a US band touring here to go back
with them - guess I should have taken them up on it... if only to
get these darn leads!

:-)

Great stuff Stewart, thanks.

It's amazing how difficult it is to find music and particularly drum
equipment retailers details in the UK via Google (poor web page
design/metatags maybe?).

Most spiders don't place much weight (if any) on robot metatags any
more. Google relies mostly on referrers, I think. You just have to
be a bit cunning(*) about your search terms. Handy linkfests like
these help too:

http://www.vintagelogos.com/weblinks.html

To help make sure people got the right part when ordering a cable of this
sort (TRS Splitter), I created a schematic that is in the photos section
of our site:

<http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/dtxpress/vwp?.dir=/Inside+the+Dtxpress&.src=gr&.dnm=TRS.gif&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/dtxpress/lst%3f%26.dir=/Inside%2bthe%2bDtxpress%26.src=gr%26.view=t>

And, since Yahoo can't seem to make it easy to link to, or embed, pics
into email, here's the link in non-gigantic format since most mail
readers will screw up the long link above:

Vern

PS: I also attached the pic to this email... but it'll prolly get
stripped out...

Re: y splitter leads in UK (cool weblinks)

cheers, Stewart - nice links.

I guessed from your CV that you'd know a bit about the
technicalities of web pages :-)

You've probably come across this one - but just in case, here's a
site I like
http://www.drummerworld.com
