RECORDINGS

2003-08-20 by narrowgatedrummer

Hey huys,
Was just wondering what method some of you might use when recording
the DTX.

Heres what Ive been doing...
Load up the song on my Korg D1600, inout a mono line to it from the
kit. Set up a record trigger. press record on the dtx, play along
with my music on the korg, and have it all recorded. THEN, I go back
to the D1600 and listen, making sure that all my rythmns are right
and fills are where i want them. I then wipe out the tracks I
recorded onto the korg and begin pulling the DTX into it one track
at a time.

I may do several versions too being that I have 128 vittual tracks
to mess with.

Im really interested in midi and how that all works.

Later,
Billy

Well, you *did* get one response.. :) I know I just use MIDI out and
record with Sonar... *when* I record... But I may be one of the few that
really uses the set more for physical/mental therapy, practice and
recreation... hmm then again, judging by the number of responses, maybe
I'm *not* in the minority! ;)

As I have been reading back through the posts, most folks that do
record, seem to run it through a computer.

The recording I do is for pleasure only. I will record a pre-recorded
song into one track. I will then play that back in monitor mode only
(so that I can hear it to play with)and send audio out from my mixer
into the d1200 for recording of drum tracks only. I can then go back
and listen to the song only, drum tracks only or both. Since it's all
for fun, I rarely permanently keep anything that gets burned to a cdr.

Although as halloween approaches I will be making some home made
sound tracks for our annual haunted yard that will burned to cd's.
This is the first year I will be trying it, since I have only had the
D1200CD a few months now.
Maybe somebody with digital recording experience will jump in and
volunteer some advice to help you out.

In case you haven't discovered them yet, I *highly* reccomend "The
Midnight Syndicate" for *really* spooky/cool background music for
Halloween. Check them out here:

http://www.midnightsyndicate.com/

I have two of their albums I pull out and play the heck out of for every
Halloween! Creepy good fun!

Thanks, I will check it out.

In the past we just had 5 portable cd players that had a single sound
effects burned to a cd that looped continuously. Pipe organ sound
behind the pipe organ I made that had a fog machine connected to it.
The fog would come out of the pipe openings. Bat sounds, foot steps,
etc. I had wanted to get a LCD projector and work up a short looping
video in Adobe Preimer that had some shadow figures moving about that
could be projected in the yard. But time is short and it may have to
wait for next year.
