what sound card to use with connecting the dtxpress to pc???

2001-12-23 by otacon28us

hello group,
i was looking through the archives of this group ,and
have noticed that some of the users from this group have succesfully
hooked the dtxpress up to there pc. to access the gm voices that are
in the module, now i was wondering what sound card was used in this
application??? also i'm thinking that you would need to download some
sort of driver as well ,and found this site,is this the type of
driver i need for this type of application

http://www.yamaha.co.uk/xg/html/software/s_serial.htm

what i want to do with my module is access the gm voices using a midi
keyboard, and my question on this would be can i run the keyboard to
the midi in on my module ,and then having my module linked to my pc
via the host input on the back of the module get access to these such
voices on my module??

any help that anyone can give me on any of these questions would be
greatly appreciated.. thanks alot ,and i would like to wish all the
members of this group a happy holidays!!!!

I think that the best way to work is to link the module and your keyboard to
your pc to the midi port out and in. Then, you will record your midi track
on your pc and listen to them with the sounds of the module.(Just change the
configuration of your software to have the midi signal through the midi port
out). But you can also just plug your keyboard to the module without the pc.
I don't know about the to host port. But I have been said that a midi
interface or a midi cable plugged through the joystick port was easier to
use. Personnally, I own an old sound blaster 64 pci with a joystick cable,
and I didn't need drivers or to install a software. But it depends on your
projects.

hey thanks for the info,
i tried to just run my midi capable keyboard into
my module(via 5 pin midi cable)and was able to get 2 different sounds
from it,i got a synth type of sound ,and a clean piano sound, but how
would i get access to the other voices in there or would they have to
be accessed through my computer only ???
thanks again,
               sam
