DTXplorer

I'm a new member. I'm looking to buy my first drum set and have
decided on an electronic set because of space issues and my
embarrassment at having other people hear me play. I do have a very
limited budget. I tried 3 electronic sets out at guitar center
yesterday and liked the Yamaha Explorer best. New, however, it's out
of current price range. I tried the Simmons, and the Roland starter
set (where the pedals are part of the base.)
Any opinions or help on how the Yamaha compares to other sets -
Alesis, ODP, etc. Anyone know anything about the Yoki I see on Ebay?
Anyone know of anyone trying to get rid of a DTXplorer cheap?
Thanks everyone.

It depends what Yoki kit you are looking at. Quite a few kits
(Hayman, Borgi, Fame, Simmons, Osp, Verve, Koncepts, Yoki, Millenium
and Legend to name a few possible ones) are re-badged Medeli ones
http://www.medeli.com.hk/products/dd/index.html

The pads are not the same as the Yamaha. I don't know if the module
is. Maybe some else out there knows?

One thing I do know is the Yamaha modules sound good and the DTXplorer
and DTXpress IV sound better than my DTXpress III. Also, Yamaha pads
last well (notwithstanding a certain person near me who has broken a
couple). Also, their "feel" is pretty good.

I have seen bad reports about the pads on some of the cheaper kits.
Look for posts by Hart Drums on the Harmony Central drum forum for an
opinion (maybe biased, but then so am I!).

Keith.
