hi-hat settings

hi-hat settings

2008-04-08 by ruffalo2003

Can anybody help me out on the hi-hat settings, I'm not getting a
"natural" opening. I'm using a pedal (not a rhh130) and a roland cy5
as hi-hat. The settings in the module (dtxpress 4) are rhh. This way i
get edge sounds on the cy5. But the hi-hat offset is giving me
trouble. Any ideas on this?

I don't think selecting RHH is necessarily the best option for the
CY5. Try PCY3 or one of the other 3 zone settings - you will still
get the edge sound. You could also try the "misc" trigger settings.

Keith,
thanks for the suggestion, but I already tried that. Maybe I just have
to step on the pedal a little harder....or buy a real rhh130. Anyway,
the pcy3 settings makes things worse, it's never closing with that.
All the misc settings force me to set my hi-hat offset to 32, and then
I still get a lot of "open" hi-hat where I don't want them.

Tom,

That seems a little strange. I wouldn't have thought that the PCY3
setting should affect the closing. I use a PCY65S with the PCY3
trigger setting and an offset of -10 with no problems. I assume you
are using the correct hi-hat pedal? One thing to try is the hi-hat
pedal physical adjustment. You can adjust the pedal with a drum key
at the front of the pedal. As shipped I found I had to stamp on mine
too much and that fixed it.

Keith,

Apparently the cy5 differs a lot from the pcy65s?
I'll try and fiddle with the physical adjustment tonight \and let you
know...

Tom,

It may do, but surely the hi-hat pedal itself and hi-hat offset and
time settings should be the only things that affect whether it is
"closed" or open, not the pad itself? If I get chance I will try to
have a play with the settings later today to understand it better.

Keith.
