Tp120 missed triggers

Tp120 missed triggers

2008-03-02 by Nick Falconer

Hi All

been noticing recently at practises with my band that I'm getting
occasional missed triggers on my TP120 snare (attached to DTX 3
Special).

Think I've traced it to problems with the pad picking up general
vibrations from the rest of the band - I can see low levels of input on
the DTX display snare channel when I'm not playing anything, and I can
feel vibrations by touching the pad either on the head or the
underside. So I'm assuming maybe the pad reject settings may be
causing missed triggers perhaps?

Has anyone else experienced anything similar and found a work around?
Should I fiddle with the reject settings? I don't think I can dampen
the head as you might on a real snare drum. Or maybe I just need to
get the rest of the band to turn down (bet they won't go for that!)

Nick,

It's probably time to look at the rejection settings. The other
settings which may help are the Gain and Mvel for the pad in the
trigger menu.

Keith.

I have had dropout problems playing both the DTXpress & DTXtreme live.
The best solutions I have found are:

1. Make sure you are not in the "firing line" of any bass heavy
speakers. i.e. directly in front of/or close to the bass guitarist's
cab or any subs etc. These are the biggest causers of dropouts in my
experience.
2. If possible isolate the kit from the floor - I use gymnasium/judo
mats covered by a board, this cuts out any vibration transmitted
through a suspended floor - e.g. a stage! Useful if you have dancers
or over enthusiastic singers & guitarists. I have seen isolation
platforms that use tennis balls (INGENIOUS but heavy to cart around)
3. Make sure that none of the stands ar anything else that might
cause vibration are in contact with the drum kit rack, pads, wiring
etc.

The trigger rejection settings are worth tweaking but I have found
that eliminating vibration sources is the most effective treatment.

i played a dtxplorer and had the same problem .... the bass cabinet
waz way to close to my kit , basicaly i did some cleaning up ... made
myself a little podium with rubeer "shoes" .. my settings for the
snare were/are gain 99% mlv 5 self rejection 1 rejection 6 (i like
ghost notes)
PS like people said this http://www.dtxpressions.com/platform works
.I didn't build it cause i'm laisy :)

Thanks everyone!

Some food for thought I think. Interestingly, the vibrations on my
TP120 seemed not to be due to bass levels particularly, but worst when
our vocalist was giving out his best Cradle Of Filth -style gruff
roars! I could hold the pad in my hand and feel the vibes. So I'm
not so sure if physical isolation of the pad is going to cure it,
maybe it's going to have to be some playing with the reject settings.

Cheers

Nick
