KP65 repair

Is there anyway to repair the failing foam pad? Are repair kits
available from Yamaha?

Best Regards,
Perry

Perry,

I am not aware of Yamaha offering repair kits. If it is foam you are
talking about then I guess it is the kick pad. If so, just buy some
foam & try it - you have nothing to lose if it isn't working. OGD
left pictures of all the pads opened up in the photos section.

Keith.

I've also suffered the dreaded KP65 syndrome. I read somwhere a
funny solution that has worked like a charm for me.

The inner part of the rubber external pad is *exactly* the same size
that of a CD. Put an old CD there, between the rubber pad and the
foam and no more missing or double strokes!

On the other hand, the piezo of my KP65 seemed to be reverse wired.
I mean, it gave a negative pulse instead of positive. I reversed the
leads coming out of the piezo and now it seems more responsive. My
KP65 is a very early serial number, FWIW.

It is a while since I have looked at the signals out of the pads, but
from memory I think the kick is well damped so the polarity can be
significant. I have looked at a KP65 which was unresponsive for
someone else and that was reverse wired.

Perry, not sure if your KP65 is still under warranty (I think warranty
is 1 year)....if it is Yamaha is pretty good to deal with when it comes
to customer satisfaction. My KP65's rubber cover was wearing out
awfully bad and consequnetly damaged the trigger. I called Yamaha
Customer Service and after explaining the situation they took my
address and sent me new trigger. I still use the same rubber pad except
now I put a Remo Falam Slam on it and for the last two years that has
worked fine. Good Luck

Perry,
I have a brief tutorial that shows how I repaired my KP65. I will
attempt to post it in the Files section.

MoD

I've posted a brief pictorial in the files section on how easy it is to
do this, see "Repairing the Foam Pad on a KP65.pdf".

My pleasure, another great thing about doing this is: that by not
having to glue anything in you can try different media in the pad to get it to feel "just right"

glad you found it useful,

MoD
