The hi hat voices tend to have very short decay times as defaults, try lengthening these for a start. The best sound I get is if I crossfade two voices, a long decay semi closed voice and a short decay fully closed voice. In fact I use exactly the same voice, but change the decay time. With the longer decay voice coming through with the stronger hits it plays more like a real hi hat as you crash on the lip rather than ride the top surface. You could also drop the root note a few tones, this gives a more realistic tone too. An alternative is to mix together the voices of a hi hat and a ride bell, a quiet long decay bell underneath the main hi hat voice will give a sound closer to jazz hats. Big and important point! Make sure you know exactly how your DTXpress is going to sound live! The sounds of the DTXpress can be very different when heard through a PA compared to headphones. I had particular problems getting the bass sorted, just too much bottom end which my headphones weren't reproducing. If you don't have your own PA, then make sure you know where the bass and treble adjustments are on the DTXpress, they could save you from acute embarrassment. Nothing worse than spending ages setting up the perfect sounds only to have it blown to hell by a PA with big bass or no top. Just don't panic, and all should be well. PS - Don't forget the power supply!! :) -----Original Message----- From: Herb <herb@...> To: DTXpress@egroups.com <DTXpress@egroups.com> Date: 19 October 2000 17:06 Subject: [DTXpress] Live show on Friday!!!Help >Hey guys > >I decided to take the DTXpress to live gig this Friday, if anyone is from >long island its at Shaker27 >on sunrise Highway, anyway.
