Poll Results

2003-08-04 by ozteevan

Last week I polled the group to get an idea of the level of activity.
This was a random one week sample. It may be affected by the season
but I would note that while it is Summer for some of you, it is Winter
for those of us that are in the southern hemisphere!

--> 43 registered members responded.
A small number given the 733 member register. About 30 of these
members cast their vote in the first 24 hours. These would be the
"Ultra-Regulars" who are probably the main posters also.

--> An unknown number of registered members did not vote.
These guys & gals may have not voted out of some privacy fear, or
something, or it could have been apathy. Perhaps they get the email
digest and do not access the board online - hence no vote.

--> An unknown number of unregistered regulars read the board.
IMHO, this is the biggest unknown grouping. There could be many
hundreds of readers that casually drop by from time to time.

--> Online v Email
Just over half of those that responded use the email feature. Based on
this one would have to say that the email feature is very important
for the registered members of this group. It should however be noted
that unregistered users do not get email.

25% of those that voted use the email digest almost exclusively to
participate rather than online access or a combination of both
interfaces.

<-- -->

So, nothing really conclusive here other than the possible
quantification of the importance of the email interface to the
regulars ie 53% of them use it.

I believe that we must figure out a way to quantify the unregistered
and silent membership before we consider restricting access to the
group.
