Yahoo could are less.  It costs them nothing when a group disappears 
& frees up bandwidth.

Secondly, how about creating a group file that directs visitors to 
the "new" site, telling them why the group chose to relocate, and 
just set it so the file posts every week in perpetuity?  If that's 
not do-able by anyone except a moderator, somebody from the "new" 
group could just post that info here once a week.  Anybody that 
checked in would see the "WE'VE MOVED" message.
