Don't underestimate the value in using good headphones. Good does not 
necessarily mean most expensive though. 

I use a pair of Sennheiser (HD200) that are aimed at DJ's but work 
wonderfully with edrums. My volume is set at about 80% and it is 
plenty load enough.

I have also read warnings about the damage that you can do if you are 
not careful with limiting the volume of your kit when playing with 
domestic audio amplifiers and speakers.
