Jade, I have seen the stuff you're talking about. DW makes an smaller bass shell they call a woofer, it goes in front of your existing bass and is supposed to enhance the sound. The only cymbal set ups I've seen that you describe..sabian puts out a line of Mike Portnoy cymbals called the max stax, they stack two cymbals on top of each other for a crunchy effect. Kind of a high end ribbon crasher. Of course you could do this with any brand cymbal, the stax are usually a crash with a smaller china on top. I have no idea of the ride you're describing though...certainly sounds interesting...wouldn't the ride sound be completely muted? Hmmm.
