UNH, Long time no see. You have to layer from the external device. The MidKITI, for example, will accept up to four layers--three simulataneous and four alternating. I don't know about the PM-16, but a wild guess is that it doesn't, since Roland doesn't offer that feature on many, if not all, of its modules.
