Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

Hey Manolo, Sorry we left you hanging. Here's some things
you can try.

1.VOICE menu: KIT Common, Volume. This is the master volume
control for the whole kit, range 0-127. Set it as high as
you can without distorting the audio output, when hitting
your hardest.(see 5 below) Not having tried the Cyrus , I
don't know what tolerance for input level vs.
sensitivity/impedance. Your speakers could be in danger, not

from volume but from square wave signals on peaks, caused by

overdriving the pre-amp input.

2. PLAY menu: page down one so you see TRIG=1 Medium. If you

change the value to 3 Easy, you will compress the dynamic
range, smoothing out the output. Your speakers will be safer

when you hit hard, yet your softer hits will be a little
louder. Similiar effect to using an outboard compressor.

3.UTILITIES menu: set VOL MODE to LIVE so that you can
easily turn up the snare and kick from the front panel.
In PRACTICE mode, you have to hold the shift button down
while adjusting the snare and kick volume: takes two
hands...

4.VOICE menu: VOL setting, Each pad can be turned up
individually, but you will lose dynamic range (difference
from soft to loud) Basically you are making softer hits
appear louder, so that may feel odd to play like this,
unless you carefully re-balance. Better to use option 2
above, as it is less likely to throw your kit out of
balance. (So it wouldn't be wise to set
every pad to 127!)

5. A final note on volume settings on the DTXpress and the
Cyrus One: It is quite acceptable to run the Cyrus volume
control wide open, or close to it, and control your master
volume at the DTXpress, as long as you are careful not to
switch sources, or plug/unplug any gear or pads while it is
turned up. I use my DTXpress straight into a 100W/ch power
amp (no gain controls) and regulate the output volume from
the front panel control of the orange box. I have my CD
player in the Aux in for playing along to practice tunes.
