Re: Compatable Cymbals For DTExpress II

2003-01-24 by liberatusvirus <liberatusvirus@yahoo.com>

Jade,

Thanks for asking. I've had a little time to tinker and test the
Visu-lite 1800B ride today through the Yamaha, and I'm really
impressed. It triggers every bit as reliably and as sensitively as
my first impression led me to believe. The bell is generous in size
and easy to hit. I haven't had time to determine the level of
crosstalk between it and the bow yet, but I'll definitely get there.
I originally intended to mate the cymbal with my midiKITI, which has
some stacking features that the DTX doesn't, but it works too well
through the Yamaha to justify any such move. In fact, it makes the
Yamaha ride voices actually sound good without layering. The Visu-
lite is confirming me in my purist ways.

Stick noise through the 1800B's rubber playing surface over the
acrylic is a little more evident than on some other cymbals, but not
bad at all. Those who play mostly through a monitor won't flinch;
those who use headphones should be able to find comfortable volume
and gain settings. As for looks, when light from a lamp in a dark
rooms hits the translucent edges, the effect is brilliant. I can
imagine how the Visu-lites look on stage.

Ed
