Are there any "rules" for user sounds ? For example, should there be a
certain sequencer speed ?
Are more patches needed or more sequences ?

I have recorded some of the sounds I made yet on
http://www.trippler.net/music/Stuff/answer7/answer7.html

Stefan

No rules. As stated in the forum thread, just get them uploaded to
the files section in the Yahoo group. Make whatever you like...
patches with sequences, patches without sequences, whatever.

Thanks.

Peter, of course the Evolver is capable of more, but a few points
regarding your "crap" assessment of trippler's or Boele's mp3:

- Assuming that you're talking about trippler's bass patch/sequence,
that patch HAD to be fairly generic and simple, because he used it in
a comparison/quiz between seven different synths. He couldn't do a
bunch of stuff on the Evolver that the other synths weren't capable
of (and vice versa). The point was to compare the sound of the seven
different synths. Go here for the comparison/quiz:
http://www.trippler.net/music/Stuff/stuff.html

- Whether you're talking about trippler's mp3, or Boele's mp3, why
don't you try to ENcourage him, rather than DIScourage him?
Regardless of whether you or I or anyone else think a given
patch/sequence/mp3 is "good" or not, the fact remains that the guy is
graciously sharing his work with the community. How about giving
some *constructive* criticism - tell him HOW you think he can improve
his patch - rather than just giving him *destructive* criticism by
telling him it's "crap".

- Since you seem to be fairly knowledgeable and experienced with the
Evolver, how about sharing some of *your* work (patches, sequences,
songs, etc.) with the community? Show everyone how it's done! :)

Hi Ski (and Peter),

Thanks for stepping in here, but please let's not start a war here...

People saying that my sounds or music are crap, without reasoning it, I will
just ignore.
If he thinks that sequence is crap, well, ok. Good for him.

Indeed, if I would think something like that from someone else, I certainly
would have put it in other words. In my case it does not matter, but saying
this to someone who just started to make music with his first synth
(Evolver) a statement like that could damage someone's confidence... :-)

That sequence ran through my monitors all night last night and I enjoyed it
A LOT! Can't argue about taste. The balls this synthesizer has is fun for me
and I noticed the balls in this particular sequence. I will put online a new
audiofile of it (not mp3) and leave the phaser out. Maybe the balls get more
recognizable then?

I make music for more then 20 years now, released 188 tracks on my website.
All selfmade music and selfmade sounds (mostly). It really does not hurt my
confidence when someone comes with a mail like Peters one. :-)

I think the Evolver is a fantastic little box. It's a long time ago, that I
had so much fun with a synth!

And yes, I will pledge some sounds/arps for the usersoundset asa I have made
a few.

Regards, Boele

Sure no! It's just the way you formulated it. But again, *I* have no problems with it. Let's please stop this ok?

ok the mp3 format allways make the fatest of synth
sound like some cheap software..

I've uploaded a bare take in uncompressed audio-format, without the phaser: http://www.synthmusic.info/mp3s/evolver2.wav

I was just grabbed by the nice sound of the analog oscillators. That's all.

maby i should have said that it just isent my kind of
taste then..i find stuff like that sound like
commercial readytogo technopackage..and the internet
and records are filled with it.

LOL! If there is a kind of music *I* do not like it is that kind... To me that sequence triggered memories of old Tangerine Dream records... Funny! :-)))

im more of a explorer then a musiccian maby.
anayway no hard feelings evolver friend:=)

Sure. Boele shakes hands with Peter and goes back to his Evolver.
By the way, the next upload you will like then. It's a sort of breathing synth. More your cup of tea I guess... :-)

Quote from Peter: "so its only ok to give respons when its a good
respons then?"

No, that's not what I said at all, Peter. What I said was this:

Quote from Ski: "How about giving some *constructive* criticism -
tell him HOW you think he can improve his patch - rather than just
giving him *destructive* criticism by telling him it's 'crap'."

There's a big difference between saying something like, "I didn't
like your patch. It sounded very thin. Why don't you try a lower
filter cutoff, and detune the oscillators a bit?" and saying, "Your
patch is crap."

Anyway... to Stefan and Boele, thanks for sharing your work. I had
fun with the synth quiz, though I failed miserably - only got two of
them right! I enjoyed the mp3's, as well.

Peter, you're obviously quite experienced. I hope you'll post some
of your work too, be it demos, songs, or patches/sequences.
