Neil, it was a good idea to remind us to think about how the filters 
interact, but Miles is correct.  The low pass filter takes out the 
high frequencies (it allows the lows to "pass"), while the high pass 
filter removes the low frequencies.  If the low pass filter was using 
a very low cutoff frequency, applying the high pass filter 
(especially with a high cutoff frequency) would at best leave you 
with a VERY "thin" sound at low amplitude.
