I don't seem to receive an audible effect if I choose highpass as modulation destination. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong ? Regards Stefan www.trippler.net/music

I don't have my evo with me, but if I remember correctly, one has to set the hipass filter above zero for modulation to affect it. So just set it to 1 and you should be cool. Come to think of it, that probably falls under the category of 'bug'. A very small bug, but one nonetheless. --- In DSI_Evolver@yahoogroups.com, trippler@t... wrote: > I don't seem to receive an audible effect if I choose highpass as modulation

Stefan - Other than what thligrdd already mentioned, there are two possibilities for why you may not be hearing any effect: 1) If your highpass filter is set anywhere from i00 to i99, it only affects the external input. See the quote from the manual below: ************ Highpass: 3 5 S o0 99, i0 99 Sets the cutoff frequency of the four- pole highpass filter. If set to o00 to o99, the filter is placed after the analog lowpass filter and VCA, before the Delay. If set to i00 to i99, the highpass filter is inserted before the analog lowpass filter, and only affects external input. Refer to the Signal Flow diagram on page 10. There are two separate highpass filters, one for each channel, that are controlled in tandem. Remember that any of the modulation sources can be routed to the Highpass Filter; for example Envelope 3 can be dedicated to the Highpass. ************ 2) I remember Dave telling me long ago in an email that the highpass filter sometimes didn't function if you use long delay times (or maybe something else that is DSP intensive). I THINK this was only a problem with beta units, and that the production units (with their larger DSP chips) always work correctly. Don't forget the obvious: If the low pass filter is set to too low of a frequency, you won't hear any changes with the highpass filter, as there aren't enough highs to hear a difference.. You may want to manually check the interaction between all the filter settings, including the LPF filter envelope and envelope amount, before modulating the HPF.

I think in that case you won't hear any sound at all... :-) -Miles -- Come now, if we were really planning to harm you, would we be waiting here, beside the path, in the very darkest part of the forest?

Neil, it was a good idea to remind us to think about how the filters interact, but Miles is correct. The low pass filter takes out the high frequencies (it allows the lows to "pass"), while the high pass filter removes the low frequencies. If the low pass filter was using a very low cutoff frequency, applying the high pass filter (especially with a high cutoff frequency) would at best leave you with a VERY "thin" sound at low amplitude.
