Hi All My impression is that the zeitgeist of the CVS is a pool of shared subroutines and applications that run on a 'pretty-standardized' platform. Participation in this open-source principle is entirely voluntary of course***. But the LCD subassembly is an accessory that is distinctly separate from the CVS platform(s). i just don't see it as a component of the CVS. In the first place, a CVS can make plenty of music, very effectively, without the LCD, and in that sense alone, i don't see any incongruity with even 'the spirit of the law' in Mr. Loffink reserving the driver code for an accessory as private. In the second place, the LCD is a standalone device and the CVS is only one of it's possible applications. Some of those applications may not espouse open-source principles. Lastly, having done some device-specific drivers in the past, and speaking strictly for myself, i'm ECSTATIC that i'll never have to look at the driver code for that display. i'm overjoyed that some other poor lamb ascended that altar in my stead. ;'> i'm VERY content to remain a mere user in that realm. Mr. Loffink has provided access to routines that will allow me to have all the two-line text fun that i can conceive for my CVS adventures. From my perspective i just don't see an issue. Incidentally, i just built an LCD, it's a fairly easy build and it works VERY well. -doc *** There's no rule that says someone couldn't -try- to develop CVS applications on a commercial basis. But i daresay they'd better have another source of revenue at the ready. Given the BasicAtom's application environment, these apps would be pretty hard to protect. (they couldn't be potted in epoxy, for instance) ;'> --- In ComputerVoltageSources@yahoogroups.com, "Samppa Tolvanen" <samppa.tolvanen@...> wrote: > > On 9/7/07, djbrow54 <davebr@...> wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I thought that a Build Guide for the LCD_Support PCB might be in order > > based upon some recent emails.
