i tried hard but the 'squint factor' proved to me time after time that
your trebele clef is the best compromise with the 7x5 grid without
becoming an ampersand

i reviewed the character set and here are my thoughts

after i thought about it ...
i like the hex and decimal symbols... kudos!

i think we need an Up and Down arrow more than a natural sign or
sharp. The natural is only relevant in the context of a key signature
and that's WAY outside the capabilities of the display.
i'll grant you that having a dedicated flat instead of a plain
lower-caste "b" is a a little more readable, but the ASCII crosshatch
will do fine for a sharp.

For myself, i'd never use the clefs or the note symbols but i can't
think of anything MORE applicable so they win by default.
