My 2x20 LCD is spec'd at 4.1 volts at a max of 260 mA. I run it with a 68 ohm series resistor. Assuming a constant 4.1 volts, that's only 13 mA. It's plenty bright. I think we need to get one and experiment with what is reasonable. You don't need to read it from across the room.
