I made a simple Program for win32. You can download it from: www.synthomania.de . Although it is in German, you shouldnt have any problems because its really minimalistic. Perhaps I will translate it to English this evening. Daniel

Ok Steve, I think this was the problem: vslight6.ocx is a control that isnt used by the program but was somehow linked to my vb projekt. Only the english version I added yesterday had these problems, I should have been more carefully. However, I created a new installer that contains only two of the basic files: the program itself and the midiio.ocx. Try this, it should work. www.synthomania.de/czcontroleng.exe If you need any further advice, just ask me. Daniel

Thanks.
My OS is Windows 98 SE [English langauge].
The files that VBRUN60 replaced which were older than the ones I
previously had on the computer were:
ASYCFILT.DLL 2.40.4275.1
COMCAT.DLL 5.00.1601.1
OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4277.1
OLEPRO32.DLL 5.00.4275.1
STDOLE2.TLB 2.40.4275.1
Your program produces the following error message:
CZControl 1.0
Component 'vslight6.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly
registered: a file is missing or invalid
I have never seen an error message with this wording before. Is
vslight6.OCX one of your components or part of VBRUN60? Is it called
by your porgram? vslight6.OCX is not on my computer.
Norton WinDoctor reports no problems.
I am trying to locate VBRUN60.EXE MS has several updated versions.
I will try the latest one I can find.
I hope this helps figure out the problem.

I will have to see if I can get my CZ patches from either my Commodore 64 disks or data tapes. The only CZ patches I have on the PC are not in SYX format. When I was writing a patch bank program (first on the C-64 and then on an 8088 using Turbo Pascal), I used 2 file formats: (1) 16 patches-no sysex header/EOX and (2) 256 patches- again no sysex header/EOX. I haven't written midi programs in years, but I suppose I could try to find Turbo Pascal and write a program to stick in the sysex. Are you going to be developing CZControl 1.0 further? Steve PS: I deleted message 1369 on the CZ board. You may want to delete message 1371.

I have currently no time for further developing, but I plan to rewrite everything in c++ (less trouble with .ocx etc.) and add a patch editor for "Hidden Parameters". To the file format: Actually, the format depends on which kind of synth is selected in the setup menue. 16 patches for cz101/1000, 32 patches for cz3000/5000 and 64 patches for cz1. Each patch contains the send request message. All in all I'm not really content with this, my own file format would be much easyer to handle. Let´'s see if I find a solution... Steve, I decided to spend more time on playing my instruments than writing buggy software for them. So I think there is no chance for collaboration. But I'm glad to hear that you are going to write some midi stuff. You should consider writing a GUI, the commandline is just out of date! My tipp: Use crossplatform libraries and your programs will compile on windows, linux and in most cases even on mac. My favorites are: -MIDIIO libs (manages all you midi input/output) http://midiio.sapp.org/ -Improv (the same as MIDIIO with additional features) -QT : library for GUI's . QT is a lot easier to program than f.e. Microsoft's MFC. QT programs will run on Windows and LINUX!!! www.trolltech.com -WxWindows: another library for GUI, also multiplatform (linux, win, mac), I don't know much about it, but it seams to be very recommandable. Alway keep in mind: I'm no professional programmer and have only very basic konwledge about c++ and the librarys i mentioned above. So I'm not particular useful for your demand's. If you have questions, read the doc's of QT, they tell you everything about GUI programming. Good luck!! Daniel

Daniel,
The following is an excerpt from a post I placed on another board.
Note paragraph 2. Any possibility of collaboration on software? If
not, perhaps I can tap into your Windows programming expertise.
(BTW, I just dug out my old Pascal and C++ programs--circa 1991/1992!)
