ARE MY ANDROMEDA'S PROBLEMS TYPICAL?

ARE MY ANDROMEDA'S PROBLEMS TYPICAL?

2004-01-07 by cee_jay123

Hello-

I seem to have discovered only two "problems" with my A6 (and
they might just be par for the course):

1. With the VCA envelope set with fast release times, a few
voices release SLIGHTLY more slowly in the left audio channel
than the right- it gives a slight stereo effect at the ends of some
punchier sounds. In other words, the left channel will still be
playing for a few milliseconds after the right. It's no big deal, but I
wonder whether it is something fixable.

2. More importantly, when I tune oscillators 1 and 2 together
VERY closely, they don't seem to "hold still;" that is, they don't
beat against each other rhythmically, as they would in any other
VCO based synth. To reproduce this effect, simply set
oscillators 1 and 2 on up saw, and then, using the fine tune
knob(s), try to tune them together very, very finely- try to get them
to stop "beating" against each other, and then listen- do you hear
them "quivering" just a little bit?

:)
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Jason

Have you tried disabling "background tunning"?...it works wonders IMO.
PS: I also work with "temperature tuning" disabled...I really prefer it that
way...

Paulo,

Thanks so much for writing back. Are you saying that your A6 does the same thing? Have you tried this experiment? You have to just get two saw wave oscillators tuned almost exactly the same- just listen very very closely, and then see whether you can hear the little “quivering,̶1; or lack of stillness- I can’t get my 2 oscillators tuned to where they’ll stay very close and hold still. It’s a nice effect when you use up AND down saws, because then they can cancel each other out at every beating.

Yes, I have turned off both temp and background tuning, and it still does it. Please, if you would, let me know whether my A6 is abnormal in this regard.

I like the OB-Xa’s tuning because some voices are on, and others off, but when they’re “on,” they hold still, at least. But, of course, the A6 has SO much more to offer.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Jason
