By emulative, I often think of piano, saxophone, guitar.....other 
elements of a "band."  Pads and strings aren't what I'd call true 
"emulative" sounds.  

The modulation matrix is too much fun.  Some of the sounds I've 
come up with have been truly interplanetary.   Much giggling 
ensued.
