AN200 Update

AN200 Update

2006-02-07 by digitaldisko

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there is or will there ever be an update for the
AN200 that will allow me to adjust the pulse width of a square wave
from the module..not while using the software. That is the one major
things I hate about this synth! If the AN200 had this update I would
be content on taking it with me on the road.

If there is no update..maybe someone working for Yamaha looking at
this post can help us out. Is such an update possible?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,

why not using an external controller or a keyboard to control the Pulswitdth?

Huh..i never thought of that. I do have a little midi
keyboard...but how would I go about sending a midi message to that
parameter? What is the midi number for those parameters also?

thanks a bunch,

scott

According to page 132 of the manual it should be cc#16 vor Osc1 and cc#22 for
Osc2, if everything fails you should be able to use the mod-matrix to assign a
controller one or even both of the parameters...

can I do this with a simple midi keyboard with a few buttons to
store programs? Will I be able to tell how much I have changed the
pulse-width once I start to adjust the parameters?

Re: [AN1x] AN200 Update

2006-02-08 by Summa

Sorry, I just recognised that I picked the wrong table, it wasn't the CC table,
so Pulswidth isn't avaiable via a predefined controller... :( But it's still
possible to route the Pulswidth to Mod-Wheel, Aftertouch or one of the other
avaiable CC# by using the control-matrix...

If it supports channel pressure or having a mod-wheel, even pitch pend can be
used, if you don't need the controller otherwise...

Depends on your entry in the control-matrix, direct control or just a certain
amount. Since you have to set it for every preset you use, you can decide what
works best for the sound...

Re: [AN1x] AN200 Update

2006-02-08 by Jeff

Hi brothers & sisters !
Scott , you have to assign the right controller number(s) on your
keyboard to a pot or a slider . Then it could send to your AN200 any
value between 0 and 127 to the "right" adress (i.e. the PWM) . It cannot
be done with a pushbutton that can only send a "on /off" information .
These controllers are useful to change a sound or to hold the notes (by
"removing" the "note off" send by the keys when you leave them) , not to
tune something .
You don't have any slider or pot on your keyboard ? All is not lost !
First you can have a modulation wheel on the keyboard : if it is
assignable to any MIDI controller number your problem is solved .
Bearing in mind that this could only act on one oscillator's PWM .
Or you can get a cheap MIDI control device with some pots or sliders and
an inboard merger input to "mix" the MIDI data from the keyboard with
those send by the controller . For example see Behringer or M.A.M.
devices (Germany)* ; Evolution controllers (G.B.) don't have a merger
(as far as i know) .
Cheers
J.F.
* I don't work for these companies and i have nothing to deal with them !

AN Expert Editor

2006-02-08 by Burnsie

I'm trying to get AN Expert Editor to connect from Win XP to a Yamaha
S80 with a PLG-AN board and I don't have XG Works. Doesn't seem to
connect. Anyone have any ideas? Works demo doesn't work on XP and the
update doesn't work on the demo.

Thanks

There is a standalone version of AN Expert Editor available at
http://www.yamahasynth.com/download/plg_series.html It's supposed to
work with win95 thru XP without the need for XG
Works.

Hello,

yes it is possbile/available !

but u need to select CC mode 2 on the AN1x
(page 96 of the plain manual 'control change modes')
and then check page 9 of the data list manual

vco1 midi CC 78 Pulse width
vco1 midi CC 79 PWM depth
vco2 midi CC 55 Pulse width
vco2 midi CC 56 PWM depth

No, your first answer was correct. On page 132 of the AN200 Owner's Manual is the
Control Matrix & Free EG Track Parameter List.

Any programable Real Time controller, i.e., Mod Wheel, Foot pedal, Ribbon Controller, etc.
can be used to transmit the necessary CC to the AN200 affecting PWM for VCO1 and/or
VCO2 or utilizing the Mod Matrix as you initially described below...

Do you have the latest rev of the editor 1.2.2 (link is here:

AN Expert Editor

2013-02-16 by Jon Engel

Hello all! I'm new to the group and new owner of a PLG150-AN, loving every
bit of it. Only problem I have is software to control it. I have Studio
Manager installed for my Motif ES Rack, it seems to recognize the card and
gives me some unique board editing options, as well as basic librarian
functions, but overall sound design editing is limited. I tried to load the
AN Expert Editor on my PC (Windows 8 x64) and though it seems to have
installed it does not launch. I have tried several compatibility settings
and have tried running it with Admin privileges to no avail. Anyone run
into the same problem? Will it run stand alone or does it need XG Edit to
run? I've been able to get AN1xEdit to run but for me, since it doesn't
support Bulk Dumps from the PLG card, is a less than optimal solution for
me. Open to any ideas, thanks in advance for all the help! Jon E.

Hi,

IIRC XGEDIT is needed (it's been a while since I looked at it!) as it's a container for the PLG editors.

I'm a bit tied up tonight but, if you wish, tomorrow I'll check my setup and let you know about it (unless somebody else gets there first!). I have a dual boot computer with both Windows XP and Windoze 7 64 bit.

I'm also a Motif Rack ES User with PLG150-AN installed and now a PLG150-VL, so I need to take a look at getting the VL editor going anyway!

Unfortunately due to the way the PLG cards work, they don't support bulk dumps unless a host (like the AN200) keeps a copy. I don't think the Motifs do that.

Cheers
Derek

RE: [AN1x] Re: AN Expert Editor

2013-02-18 by Jon Engel

Thanks Derek.

The Studio Manager module for the Motif Rack ES supports bulk dumps to the
user voice section of the card and comes with the presets for all the PLG
cards as separate data files, if you want to and need a hand getting set up
with that let me know, or I can post the files to the group's files section.
I can appreciate your using a dual boot partition, I just retired my
Vista/WinXP dual boot system, I got tired of having to go back and forth
having to reboot the computer to use different applications, so far, with
the exception of the AN Expert software, consolidating on Win8 x64 is going
pretty well.

So if I understand you correctly, I do need XGEdit to run the AN Expert
Editor? Is there a place I can download it? Thanks! Jon E.
