AN1x VST opinions

AN1x VST opinions

2006-02-03 by Bruce Oliver

I would be interested in hearing opinions on the similarities and
differences between the VST AN1x and the real thing. I can't really
evaluate as i don't have a hardware AN1x...I'm on this group because I
have an AN200.
Cheers,
Bruce

I don't have any idea, what you're talking about. But let me know what
exactly it is called and maybe where to find it.
I'd love to give it a try.

I suppose it is a software virtual instrument .
But sit down , relax and start thinking a minute brothers .... The AN1X
is also called "virtual analog" synthesizer , and you want to use the
virtual clone (?) of an already virtual instrument ? And you need a
keyboard to play too , even plugged into a computer port . So why not
try "the real thing" ? Assuming that a second hand synth could be
cheaper than a dedicated software and a control keyboard , i can't see
where is the advantage of the "virtual virtual" solution .
Maybe i'm too conservative ?
For me these softwares could be useful to re-create (more or less) the
sounds of rare and expensive old time synths : very few people can
afford a modular ARP or Moog . Then first they have to find one still
playable (good luck !)* , have a large room to stack their half ton of
electronics , a good knowledge of analog circuits to fix the countless
failures ....

* For example here in France we have less than ten EMS Synthi 100 , most
of them in studios , music schools or museums ...

Makes googling it so difficult

I already got the AN1x.

A VSTi as well might be free; if not now maybe 2008

On some instruments the GUI indeed helps to understand the signalflow
in your synth better than your hardware can. It may sound different.
It may give you more voices more multitimbrality and therefor less
mixdowns longer control.

I do not think you're too conservative. I got lots of hardware synths
here around, computers and soundcards. And though it finally looks
like there is no virtual AN1x at all, I'd give it a try to find out.
Not to replace the hardware because it cannot.
And I have to agree software instruments really make most sense when
it comes too MOOG Modular e.g.
btw: maybe you`ll find this one interesting:

The link is too long. Have a look at eBay. Search EMS in musical
instruments. It 7.30 pm today.

Well, not too difficult. With some perseverence, like I did at some
point last year, you can find very interesting things within the 50+
page result set of a google search on "AN1x" ;)

There is a free vsti...

Anyways, a mail might hit the mailinglist about a new upload. I did some
digging in my very messy "incoming" dir, and found the an1x vsti which I
downloaded somewhere last year.

It's not perfect, but at least you can play around a bit with it. Afaik
it doesn't support the .an1 files, but hey, can't have it all.

Enjoy the vsti, maybe there's an update for it by now, it has been a
year ago since I found it (almost).

Cheers
