AN200: Mod-Wheel -> Vibrato connection that is not part of the CTRL Matrix...

2005-03-22 by Summa

Hi,

I'm mostly building sounds from scratch, but can't remove that Mod-Wheel->Vibrato
connection. Checked the whole GUI including Control Matrix and turned off all FX.
I'm using the AN200 Editor, is there some kind of global vibrato setting I'm not
able to reach from within that software or is it hardwired connection?

Thanx for your help!

You need to make certain the valus for Amod Depth (VCA), Fmod Depth (VCF) and Pmod
Depth (for both VCO1 & VCO2) are set to '0' in your Voice to eliminate any
modulation which would occur at Key On. There is no "global vibrato setting."

Under the Ctrl Matrix you will find 'Source' assigned to A. MW and 'Param' set to any of
Amod Depth, Fmod Depth and/or Pmod Depth - particluarly the latter - on MANY of the
factory supplied Voices. A -/+ numeic value for Depth under the Ctrl Matrix serves as an
offset to the programmed mod depth. A value of 'dirct' for Depth under the Ctrl Matrix is
exactly that - a direct control of the mod depth.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jon,

that's exactly the problem, I set every modulation to 0, cleared the Control
Matrix and still having a modulation when moving the mod-wheel up and don't know
how to eliminate it. I rather would like to use the MW for other things...

The only other option which occurs to me is Commn1 or Commn2 is set to 'Vari Param'.

Why don't you upload the Voice in .an1 format - use AN1xEdit for this, you can get it from
the files section here at Yaoo! Groups - and we''ll have a look...

Where can I find those parameters?

It seems to me that all the voices react that way, even the ROM presets unless
LFO speed is set to 0, but even then it sometimes introduce a slight pitch shift
depending on the random start phase of the LFO wave. That's why I thought this
could be some kind of common parameter...

I have a plg150an installed in an s80. When using the plg150an board,
the s80 has a default setting of Mwheel>pitch mod>10. This setting is
adjusted in the host synth (s80). If there is a control edit screen
on the AN200 itself, try looking there, and set the Mwheel>pmod
amount to 0. Another thought(I haven't tried this); maybe you can
counteract the hosts' default vibrato setting by making a control
matrix assignment in AN edit: Mwheel>pitch mod> -10.

Re: [AN1x] Re: AN200: Mod-Wheel -> Vibrato connection that is not part of the CTRL Matrix...

2005-03-25 by Summa

Hi,

yep... the AN200 has a dispay, but I haven't found a global pmod parameter yet :(
it might be a bit hidden... ;) I probably have to take an even closer look at the
manual...
In my case the default setting seems to be 5 and I as you suggested I was able to
negate the effect with the control matrix. If it's a fixed value this might be
the solution, but I'd like to be certain to have no other option than this.
Since I reseted the AN200 after I got it everything should be on its default
settings and I wonder noone else recognised that preprogrammed vibrato...

In the Ctrl Matrx there sixteen sets of Param/Source pairs, two controls for Pitch Up &
Down and two sets of Common parameters used for volume,Rev or Dly Effects return or
the variable parameter for the selected Vari Effect.

Then there has to be a settig for Pmod depth for VCO1 or VCO2. There is no global
Vibrato seting.

Have you double checked the PWM Depth is zeroed out for VCO1 and VCO2?

Just to follow up on Jon's ideas:

One way to start to "fix" your problem is to go the Matrix section and delete
everything. Turn every Set to Off.
After you do this, then learn how to route the controls to your preference and
set up the patch the way you like it.

One of the biggest mysteries of the AN series is the Depth parameter in the
Matrix. You should try out the control very carefully after setting a Depth
parameter. Sometimes the results can be unpredictable.

Hi Ed,

as I mentioned before, I already cleared all entries of the control matrix
section (off - Off - Direct), unfortunately it's not helping at all. Other than
that all presets, not only my own sounds are showing that behavior. I also tried
using another masterkeyboard with no luck...
Even so I got the AN200 a few weeks ago, I have no problem programming the AN200
parameters and even found a way to create nice voice and choir sounds using VCO1
M->S sync together with Ringmod.
I'm used to get along with rather complex beasts like FS1R or K5000 but that Mod-
Wheel->Vibrato thing is puzzling me and the AN200 Manual isn't quite helpfull
when it comes to an overview of all the system settings.

What happens when you zero out the modulations from the front panel
of the AN200?

I've just reviewed the AN200 Owner's Manual - you'll find links to it
and other PDF manuals here:

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/links

Chapter 9 LFO Modulation Tip 32-35 describe in detail how to make
adjust. I fail to see any mention of the Ctrl Matrix listed in the
Function Index on p. 110 - but I know this is accessible from the AN
Expert Editor sw. Unfortunately, I'm not on my home machine right
now to check this out, but it raises the concern us AN1x users are
trying to help AN200 users and we might not be using the same
nomenclature.

Hi Jon,

many thanx for your efforts, I realy appreciate it...

I'm using XGworks with AN200 Plugin to edit the synth, both came with
my AN200 and it seems to me that it grants full access to the control
matrix settings. There's an extra PDF manual for the software on the
yamaha manual libary page, showing its functions. I also tried
changing the LFO values from the front panel and messing around with
the all/limited controllers system settings but nothing seems to have
an effect on the vibrato...
