AN200 sysex dump still needed

AN200 sysex dump still needed

2005-01-11 by zog2zog2003

I am finding fun things to do with my semi-working AN200, but I would
still like to try putting a sysex file into it, of the factory
patches. Right now, I can either play the synth through the editor,
or run the drum part of it. Factory reset didn't fix anything.

I found that Midi-Ox has pages for sending the MSB and LSB and patch
change numbers, also one that will do just the (easy) calculations.
I have yet to get synth sound from the PLG card that way though, just
pattern changes on the drums.

The drum box sounds good when I midi-up the output to a sampler
loaded with 4 channels of different percussion sets. Try it!

My previous posts mention I got the AN200 chassis and PLG150-AN card
separately, and they aren't cooperating.

Here's my email:

sandersp1@...

Thanks,
Pete

I uploaded the AN200 presets in 2 banks of 128 patches using the
AN200 librarian - Hopefully I did it right. If not, let me know and
I'll try again.

Re: AN200 sysex dump still needed

Thanks!

But I have a PC, and I don't have a way to try the AN2 files. The
editors I have take ANS or AN1 or ANE files. What I want is the bulk
sysex dump of the whole AN200. You hold [Shift] then hit button [15]
three times, until it says ALL. Then you start recording either a
midi sequence or a sysex file, and hit [15] a couple more times.
It's kind of a long one, takes a few minutes to finish.

There isn't an editor for PC that's really for the AN200, is there?

Thanks,
Pete

Pete,

The stand alone AN Expert Editor for both Win/Mac can be had for free
from Yamaha here:

http://www.yamahasynth.com/download/plg_series.html

This should accomodate .AN2 format.

Also, AN1xEdit for both Win/Mac be had for free from here:

http://www.xgfactory.com/html/down/an1xed_1.htm

This will also work with your AN200, but I don't believe it
accepts .AN2. .AN1 and .ANP are still the most common.

Many of the Download links on XG Factory are osbsolete as Yamaha has
not maintained them - as a consequence the associated URLs on the
AN1xFAQ are adversely affected :-/ I intend to make time to correct
this in the coming months.

http://www.geocities.com/jondl_2000/an1x_faq/an1x_faq_toc.htm

Perhaps someone will follow your instructions and provide either
a .MID or .SYX file for you to attempt s 'refresh' of your AN200.
There are links to some SysEx ed/lib utilties on AN1xFAQ, here:

http://www.geocities.com/jondl_2000/an1x_faq/an1x_faq_toc.htm

Re: AN200 sysex dump still needed

There is an AN200 specific editor that came bundled with the AN200
that is almost identical to the Expert Editor except that it doesn't
have the arpeggio selection/editing options.

I was thinking that if I just did a standard bulk dump then that
would only capture the user bank (?) If not, I'll be glad to post
an AN200 bulk dump.

Right, but he'll need to solicit a replacement CD from Yamaha to acquire the AN200
specific version - not too mention the XG Lite & Plug-ins too. I can't see any advantage to
AN200 Editor over AN Expert Editor, do you?

Good of you to offer the Bulk Dump for Pete.

True, there's no advantage that I can think of and, after checking
with Yamaha customer support, I know that the Expert Editor's
arpeggio editing functions won't work if the PLG-150AN card is in an
AN200. I think the AN200 bank files could probably be opened with
the Expert Editor if "all file types" was chosen in the drop-down
box or it might even work to just save them with whatever the AN1X
extension is e.g. ".anx" (?)

So, Jesper, You got me all into painting my synth.
Let us know what kind of paint is recommended!
and if we should use primer or not.

The AN1xEdit extension is .AN1, the extension .ANS is the XGWorks Seqeuncer format -
.AN2 is the AN200 Editor format and can _probably_ be opened by AN Expert Editor (I've
not tried that first hand. As a side note, AN1xEdit for Win will open an .ANS, but it's
unreliable on the Mac version.

Re: AN200 sysex dump still needed

AN expert editor (the one launched from XG works lite) opens .AN1
and .ANS only, and (I think) saves only to .ANS; don't know about the
stand-alone
version...

You can see my paint job at:

I used Elmer's 3D sparkle glue paint. Unfortunately the paint didn't
last and the keyboard looks like it got in a trainwreck with a the
Grateful; Dead's tour bus now.

Paint. Who cares about paint.

There's BLASPHEMY occurring here in these photos.
Only ONE cable is running to the sound board (or amp IIRC what Jim's said about
his setup).

You need Stereo, my man. Beautiful, swirling, chorusing, panning, pulsing
Stereo.

But of course (as the French say): maybe you can't do it, eh? Or maybe your PA
setup isn't stereo, hm?

Or maybe, like many live performing artists, you've succumbed to the myth that
stereo live is a bad thing? Well, I'm here to tell ya that it's a great thing
and besides getting all of that buttery goodness out of a synth, the sound
person will be able to pull the vocals and instruments out of the mix in
beautifully subtle ways with a small pan left or right and a touch of EQ
seasoning for flavor. If available, stereo mixes always sound better.

If there is no PA amplification of the instruments ('60s style of "wall of amps"
behind the performers), I do apologize.

Hey, from a semi-pro sound tech I'll tell you that it's an ugly myth. They
state: You lose signal and have dead spots in the house! Far from true if you
DON'T HARD PAN LEFT OR RIGHT! So much stupidity out there. If you've got a pan
knob, be sure to pull the guy entirely into one speaker... dumbass. Subtleties
and nuances make the mix like a wonderful meal. Too much sweet or salt will
kill the best steak. And believe me, I've heard live mixes of some of the best
names that had that same quality as when you step on the cat's tail. Or when
you're on the airport runway.

one good reason that I know and I do when I run sound for the loud ones...
you can bridge in mono to double your output... (not my preference at all as I like using effects to tickle the audience)
me, and my wife's bands, we run in stereo and semi surround too...

(most bands get thier info to set up from the local GC or music store... ;-) and they are doing good to get any sound out sometimes...)
