re an board and the prophet 5

Keyboard Magazine compared the Prophet 5 to several VAs including the
AN1X. Said the Prophet 5 was warmer but more vanilla, needed eq to
really sit in a track. Dave Smith who designed the Prophet 5 worked
in Yamaha's physical modeling department for a spell, also designed
VA software synths so chances are it's pretty close.

For me, VAs give me 97% of what I want in an analog synth. I had a
beautiful sounding old Siel but it never worked right. Never knew
from day to day whether it would work or not. Cassette tape patch
backup. Didn't have half the capabilities of the ANix. In a mix, the
AN1X sounds analog except the pulse width mod doesn't have the same
throb. Hard to put into words.

With the free eg and the mod matrix you can get sounds from the AN1X
that I never heard from another synth.

Seil DK600 by any chance?

Still have mine, but it's pretty non-functional nowadays, after the backup
battery leaked and destroyed some of the main board. Powers up, but no
sound and can't select any patches etc.

Shame, I bought it new and it gave me lots of pleasure. In the UK when I
bought it at £999 it was the first touch sensitive synth available at under
£1000.

I actually preferred some of its sounds to the P5, a little more subtle. T
had the advantage of having 3 LFOs, although you didn't have independent
control of them all (2 were tied together). It's one big disadvantage was
not having a separate envelope for the filter. It shared this with the
amplifier and you could just choose to link it or not.

Anyway, I played many happy gigs with it. Wish I could get it going again
... sigh

HNY,

Nigel

repair the tracks...
they make a pen that looks like a sharpie that allows you to re-draw the tracks. The ink per-say is silver. Works fine for jobs like this.
Day job here distributes stuff like that.

If any feed thrus are damaged, a small wire solder top and bottom fixes that. I view it like re-building a old watch. You must take your time, have a steady hand and use the right stuff if you can or make due.

Dale,

Thx 4 the tip.

Unfortunately, from what I can make out from testing it myself, powering up
after the leak seems to have blown some of the chips, which I've never been
able to find.

A friend who used to repair synths for a living tried for a long time but
without success. My only hope now is that some other Seil owner may have
one they are selling, that maybe has a different problem, so I can make one
working synth from the two. But the only one I've seen on e-bay recently
was said to have the same problem, so I don't have much hope.

Thx anyway,

Nigel

That is sad. Perhaps somewhere in some warehouse, a stock pile of the custom chips will appear. The guys I work for here, if stuff they stock don't sell in say 5 years, it is thrown into the dumpster. No eBay, no try to sell etc. Just dumped. I sometimes take home boxes of stuff which one day I might use one or two items. Let's hope that who ever stocked those chips have better sense or at least try to make known. I figure I sell it on eBay some day in the future for my retirement... ;-)
