It's a matter of taste. I find most sampled brass and string sounds 
don't sound realistic. They sound like a keyboard player playing a 
brass or string preset. Granted the quality of the sample and the 
quality of the player factor into this. Analog patches give a 
keyboard player more expression. So although analog patches only 
approximate the actual sound they actually sound better.

For a good brass patch take a generic brass patch, set it for legato 
mono, set osc 2 to be a fifth above (set the tuning to 7) set the 
free eg to modulate the fine tuning (just a little bit) and make sure 
you have the mod wheel set for vibrato.

I agree, It's all a matter of taste, but if you ask me if I would buy an AN1x to play brass, MY 
answer is "no".
However, I never heard a synth (no matter if rompler, virtual analog or sampler) make real 
good brass sections with the expression possibility of the real thing. I'm talking about the 
kind of brass sections you can ear in classic funky (i.e. "I wish"). I don't like to play such 
things from my XP80, but sometimes I have to do it! ;-)
