Yeah, agree totally. I have wanted that feature on many items,
like guitar pedals and synths. But really it is three things I think,
one button for normalizing all the patches, another for a different
vol for solos, and a third parameter setter that wil let you set
the value for the two settings. Oh yeah...also that it will let you
revert back to individual when the buttons are off.

It'd be cool, though I don't know if any of them would listen,
to have a mailgroup that would include all the major synth
manufacturers with a kind of wish list....I mean, they are ultimitely
making this equipment for US the actual users/buyers. You'd think
they would want this kind of feedback. Sadly, alot don't seem to.
I know some folks might have some weird items on a "wish list" for
features that only 1 out of a thousand buyers would want, but
mixed in there are some really great ideas like this one.

But Jimmy, I bet if you thought about it you could actually come up
with even more ideas for improvement?

I think there are booster pedals that are made for guitar - how about
one of those? I think synth these days being digital, this feature on
an instrument itself can be a bad thing. Digital stuff never gets
louder than 0dBFS, so your option is to trim down the non-solo part.
That means, you are going to loose some 'bits' from your digital
signal, and your non-solo part may sound wimpier. This could be a
problem in a music store, too - the synth will sound quieter without
"solo boost" switch engaged.

Normalising patches would be too complex a task for a computer, I
think. You can't really tell how loud a signal is by looking at the
peak levels, and how would you know how loud a patch is going to be
when you could play 1 or 6 voice on a same patch? What about the
frequency response on PA? Since this is a situation dependant problem,
I think it's a musicians' job.

Anyway, I'm a bit disappointed by the NAMM show this time. Did anyone
find something interesting?

Keytar was funny, though. :-p

Whoa...
This is such a great idea - and I don't think I've ever seen the option on
anything, hardware or software.

Hurry up and get a patent on it Jimmy. Then charge royalties to all the stupid
manufacturers that build but don't perform with their products.

I agree with this thinking.

Not really disappointed because it's Summer NAMM and didn't expect much from it.
AES is coming up this fall but the real fun is always Winter NAMM and the oh so cool
Musik Messe.

Ableton Live 4.0 has been generating a lot of buzz on some forums, but I've so much
software waiting for attention I can't see jumping into Live this year...

Korg is actually supporting the Legacy Collection with new updates - you know, the
software package that was never going to get released to begin with ;-) Gotta love all
those tweaks to the virtual Wavestation.

Obviously Roland is trying to boost sales of their entry level RS series by renaming
them 'Juno' - hahaha

Yamaha seems to be releasing more of the same. Guess they're still riding high on the
MOTIF series. Does anybody actually USE mLAN?!?
