Editors and other bits and pieces

Editors and other bits and pieces

2004-06-04 by nuvalerium

I thought the whole point of having a forum was to help people find
stuff they need, rather than to massage the ego's of those who find
it necessary to get some sort of feedback on their songs. Since this
is highly subjective, it is therefore completely pointless and
serves no purpose. Being able to find an editor or a piece of a
missing puzzle is far more useful. So why then allow people to
upload song files which are useless and then take the moral high
ground and remove files that are actually useful. What is the point
of that? If someone needs the AN200 editor, surely this is the place
to find it. It certainly is not with Yamaha who regulary take over a
month to come back to me with anything useful despite DAILY
reminders. They may make pretty good instruments, but they have no
idea about customer service. Oh and when I lost my AN200 CD-Rom,
they wanted to charge me £20 for a new one despite having over
£3,000 worth of Yamaha gear in my studio (and all the receipts) And
then we get called the crooks for sharing a file? Ho Hum.

$0.02 ... when I joined the list, I asked members of the list to post
their work here because I wanted to listen to the synths' sounds before
I buy one of them. And people gave me such an useful feedback that now
I'm starving for a AN200 =)

If you take the time to review the thread I think you'll find the responses=
 contained
URL's to individual web sites - not actual .mid or MP3 files uploaded to AN=
1x-list.

The Yamaha software in question is copyrighted and had not been made availa=
ble by
Yamaha for distribution on the internet. If we make an exception 'just this=
 one time'
than we raise expectations that perhaps we can make an exception next time =
- and
the time after that and so on...at the end of the day somebody has to be th=
e grown
up and say 'no.'

Considering the length of time I've moderated this list and the frequency a=
t which this
topic has been expanded upon my position should should not come as a surpri=
se.
And for what it's worth, it doesn't take a heck of a lot of imagination to =
find online
resources - even at Yahoo! Groups - that will accomodate file sharing in va=
rying
degree's of legitamcy.

I don't recall anybody implying or accusing anybody of being a 'crook'. No =
doubt the
£20 fee could be written off as a cost of doing business along with your ot=
her
software licensing fee's. Check with your tax accountant.

It is, and if one were to search back through the archives they would
find much information about this topic. Unfortunately, the answer is
to call or e-mail Yamaha, and no one likes that.

Yamaha's phone support is *notoriously* bad most of the time. I
contact them by e-mail, and I have never had a problem.

I would be careful calling other peoples song files useless...
That's probably not going to endear you to anyone.

Nope. contact YAMAHA by E-mail: ycasupport @ yamaha.com

Sounds like you're talking to the wrong people. Maybe that's why
they don't seem to care.

I e-mailed yamaha and got the CD, for free, in 3 days.

The next time someone asks this question, the answer should
be "search the archives"....

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
