it's cubase's fault! its midi thru is fried!!!!!
 
even though the issue is not resolved i appriceate the help.
 
i have setup all the ports (see configurations below) and was able to play the synths and edit them without midi conflicts. BUT when you try to record something you can't hear what you are recording!!!  thus - midi thru in cubase vst 5.1 is broken or courrupt. i'm not the only one this has happed to. i've searched the cubase.net fourms and heard the same tthing about the midi thru. i hope this issue is fixed in sx 2.0 or else i am looking for a new program.

midi thru - enabled
 
input from - (enable) sw1000 midi in, midi yoke nt 1, mdid yoke nt 2, midi yoke nt 3
 
midi input- sw1000 midi in
mapped to- sw0000 midi in
 
midi out- sw1000 synth 1
mapped to - sw1000 synth 1
 
midi filtering - none
 
 
XG EDIT 95 MIDI PORT SETUP
 
midi in -none
midi out a- midi yoke nt 2
midi out b- midi yoke nt 3
enable midi thru
 
AN1XEDIT MIDI PORT SETUP
 
midi in- none
midi out- midi yoke nt 1
