Dmanx .. I am writing you 4th time...
Did you see my Reply on 9/14/2003 on AN1xMIDI thread ?
You seemed to be using AN1xEdit and Virtual MIDI port in a wrong way..
I didn't see any reply or ANY other notice that you read my Message-Reply on your question...

Ray.

  Subject: [AN1x] An1x & cubase

  Hi,
  Please can someone very kindly tell me what the following parameter settings should be in An1x edit when using AN1X synth in cubase.My sw1000xg has a DX150PLG connected to it as well.
  My stting on an1x and an1xedit is

  Key TX = 2
  Arp TX = 2
  Rx1 = 2
  Rx2 = 2
  Device = 2
  V.FX = Off

  The problem Iam having is that I can not get the an1x to talk to the editor when using cubase.Some times if I click on a voice in an1xedit, my synth says reciving.. but its not the voice I had selected from an1xedit, soits not tranmitting back to my synth.I think its still using the std preset voices form an1x.

  I know the setup must be a bit difrent when using the plg card (an150) I know there is documentation on this, but not for an1x using an1xedit in cubase?
  Can some please advise me on my settings please.

  Regards
  Dmanx

Yup .. send to my private ... digil AT dialup.ptt.ru
(change AT to @)
Hmm.. didn't see your reply BTW, forward it to me too may be or send again to list may be ?

Is AN1XEdit working fine alone (without Cubase running at the same time) ? If yes, do you run it already with MidiYoke or directly to MIDI Port of your card (selecting both : SW MIDI OUT as Output in AN1xEdit and MIDI IN as Input) ?

Ray.

Re: [AN1x] An1x & cubase

2003-10-08 by RayMaxer (Digital Illusions)

Looking at your message written on 9/15 (after my e-mail), I still see that your setup was NOT CORRECTED...
For example , this part of your SETUP is practically fully wrong (and I wrote it in my message on 9/14) :

CUBASE MME SETUP

MIDI INPUT=SW1000 MIDI IN
           MIDI-YOKE 1

MIDI OUTPUT=SW1000 SYNTH1
            SW1000 SYNTH 2
            SW1000 MIDI OUT

You don't see WHY you need to use Midi Yoke..
The reason to use YOKE (Virtual MIDI PORT) is because you CAN'T have SEVERAL Applications outputting MIDI data to ONE midi port (SW1000 MIDI OUT in this case) at the same time.. [read it again].
you need that because you want to 1) send MIDI data (notes) from Cubase to AN-1x connected to SW1000 MIDI OUT , and 2) send MIDI data (Sysex - patches and control information) from AN1x-Edit to AN-1x connected to SW1000 MIDI OUT.
On your sound card (SW) this port (SW1000 MIDI OUT) is not Multi-Client-Capable .. you can buy GOOD midi-interface like Unitor8 or Midiex which IS multi-client-capable and you can use sev. apps at the same time.
OR you use MIDI YOKE.
For your situation MIDI Yoke should be used to HAVE ONE CONNECTION to "SW MIDI OUT" only, but you should use YOKE virtual port to connect CUBASE and AN-1x Edit to IT..
This is kinda a diagram showing it..

AN-1x Edit -> MIDI Yoke PORT 1
                                                       ->  SW MIDI OUT  -> AN-1x
CUBASE -> MIDI Yoke PORT 1

So .. in your "
CUBASE MME SETUP
MIDI OUTPUT=SW1000 SYNTH1
            SW1000 SYNTH 2
            SW1000 MIDI OUT"

SW1000 MIDI OUT must be NOT listed.. instead "YOKE PORT"(which is linked to SW MIDI OUT) should be !

I am not exactly familiar with Yoke's driver (so I can't tell you EXACTLY what buttons to push) but I was using HUBI loopback program several years ago.
you need to setup it so that there is some "MIDI YOKE Port 1"or whicever number u like which is an OUTPUT MIDI DEVICE and is ROUTED to "SW MIDI OUT"..
..
..

This (and my e-mail on 9/14 which is describing same ideas but shorter) SHOULD Help you Edit your setup...
If you have problems still - ask questions about something you don't understand, but don't write again "My setup is not working as I want, can anyone help me" again...
And BTW try making AN-1x Edit work at more default setting , without all the other synths and on-board SW synths.. use default setttings, like MIDI channel 1, Transmit - 1, Rcv. channel - 1, Device No. - ALL

Ray.

Hi Ray,
Thankyou for your adivise,I will go through the setup.You mentioned that the AN1X device parameters should be kept to default settings of 1, its just that i have a DX150 PLG board conected to my sw1000, so thats why I set the an1x settings to 2.
However, I will attempt as you have recomended.I will let you know if there is something I do not understand.
Please for give me, I hope Iam not bothering you, its just that I have recenlty bought my new hardware synths,as I was initially software based.And I have had difficulty how everything works and comes together, especilly when there are synth editors invovled.
Do you know if the M-Audio midisport 8x8 has multi client drivers for XP?
I have reaserched about midex,apparently they have a sysex problem & multi client drivers have had a few problems in XP.
I will keep you informed of my progress

Regarding Interface -
I am using Midiman MIDIsport 8*8 USB here myself in XP and it works fine..
Its drivers are multiclient and there's no problems with that or sysex trasnfers as many people often have with different midi-interfaces..
I have a problem of another type, but it is related to my unit (got problems with its firmware, because of which I can't use latest drivers with it, and because of that I have bigger CPU usage when using MIDIman interface), not all MIDIman interfaces..
I'll check your info you sent and reply, but I am lready a bit suspicious about MIDI-OX you are using..
Do you ALWAYS run the MIDIox application itself while running Cubase and other programs ?
Are you sure you should do it ?
I think that MIDIyoke is stand-alone driver which does NOT need MIDIOx to be running all the time.
I suppose you somehow need to setup the MIDIyoke driver and it's virtual port with some setup or may be MIDIox application , but NOT run MIDIox while usign Cubase, MIDIox itself is a diagnostic tool to check / see what is incoming to interface from synths, to record and send Sysex information from and to synths/outboards.. but it is not needed for every-day composing, especially if you are running stand-alone editors like AN1x-Edit, which function themselves as Librarians (Patch Sending and Recieving stuff).

Ray.

and BTW .. regarding settings on AN-1x..
"
 Key TX = 2
  Arp TX = 2
  Rx1 = 2
  Rx2 = 2
  Device = 2
  V.FX = Off
"

at least change DEVICE number to "ALL" .. this needs to be changed only if you've got Several AN-1x's which you need to be able to edit by AN1xEdit. (like one is Device 1 and another An-1x is Device 2)..
I am not sure , but I remember something about the fact that you can send Patches to An-1x successfuly only if its Dev.No is the same as the Dev.No. of unit from which the patches were recieved in the first place..
After typing this, I remembered that it refers to sending patches via Sysex Dump from sequencer, but not from AN-1xEdit, I suppose.

> Hi Ray,
I am 80% there on my setup.However, there are a few things I do not understand as follows.

When I record AN1X as midi track in cubase,the data will record, but the midi track will not play back,all I get is silence?

I am also not sure how to route AN1X midi out to a midi yoke port? May be thats whats effecting my midi playback from AN1X?

When using xgedit I can play selected synth sounds from the editor from my AN1X master keyboard, but not on the virtual keyboard. I am not bothered about the virtual keyboard,just curious,some how it seems that the editor is not talking to the synth?All I get is piano sounds when playing the xgedit virtual keyboard.

Also Iam not sure how to route the outputs of my rack synths in cubase since they need sw midi out selected in cubase?I have tried outputing to midiyoke 1 and even 2 but get no sound?

Please can you very kindly advise on the above.

Regards
Dmanx
