Since the AN1X is modelled after the late 70s early 80s polyphonic
analog synths, what kind of keyboard amps did they use then? Also,
way off topic, what kind of keyboard amps (besides the wonderful
leslie) did they use back in the 60s for those glorious transistor
organs?

Fender Twins and Roland Jazz Chorus models were popular, as were dedicated keyboard amps like the Peavey KB300. Many players I knew used those little powered mixers by Peavey, Carvin, etc.

They ran all over the map. On the tube side: Silvertone twin-12 combos (similar sound to a Twin Reverb, but less power), Fender Deluxes and Twins, Ampeg Gemini Sixes and B15S/B15N combos, Vox AC30 and AC50 combos. On the transistor side: Vox Super Beatles, Acoustic 360s (with the horn), various combos by Standell, Silvertone, Danelectro, etc. (Iron Butterfly was fond of Super Beatles and Acoustic 360s.) I used a Silvertone 50W 2-12" that sounded really nice, and later an Ampeg VT-40.

What kinds of timbres would they be pumping through these amps? I
believe Jon Lord used marshalls for his B3 occasionally. Were they
sending full range timbres, like B3 or mellotron? Or more
rounded/lead tones?

Jan Hammer used a Minimoog through his Fender Twin, along with his Rhodes. His work with John MacLaughlin and Billy Cobham, and even the theme from Miami Vice, were created on this combination. This is purely an example, though, as there was no such thing as a powered speaker like the JBL Eon yet, or a dedicated keyboard amp until around 1982, so players experimented and used whatever was laying around. The Twin/Rhodes combination was very popular in the late '70s. I remember using a Fender 200W powered PA mixer, which was considered pretty advanced by some of my peers.

Also, while Jon Lord used Marshall amps for his B3, the were not stock models; they had been modified for use with Hammond Organ. Lord also used Acoustic 360 and 370 amps from time to time.

I did a little research to see what rock bands used in the 70's for
keyboard amps. The Grateful Dead, no strangers to excess, used
MacIntosh amps and 120 speakers just for the piano! I'd like to hear
the AN1X through something like that.

I'm getting tired of lugging my old tube head and 15 inch speaker so
I'm thinking of solid state. With a 50 watt tube amp I usually play
with the volume on 4. I know solid state amps are quieter watt for
watt. What's the solid state equivalent of a 50 watt tube amp? Roland
and Peavy both put out cheap amps. Are they any good?

Hi, I have a Roland KC100 keyboard amp and it's rated at 60w. It seems
like I have a problem getting out to an audience even in a small club.
It seems to work ok as a stage monitor so I think in general I should
have a more powerful amp. Then what happens when I run a line out then
if I have the amp too high then the house sound is too high and it
means that I have to be turned down on the board. If I make any
changes on volume out there, then it needs to be compensated for in the
house mix and it gets kinda hard when you don't have someone running
sound.

A little off topic, but relevant, I'm looking to lighten and simplify
my equipment. I need an amp that sounds good, is light, (well under 50
pounds) can take 2 keyboard inputs and a harmonica mic input and costs
$400.00 or less. Is this possible?

You could check out the Roland KC series amps. They may have one in
your price range and do have multiple inputs. They are not tube amps
though so for the harmonica you may need a tube pre-amp of some sort.

I use a roland KC100 for my An1x, Alesis Micron, and accordion. The
only thing I don't like is that I sometimes wished it were a tube amp.
I'm hoping to get a tube pre-amp sometime though to solve that problem.
