An200 questions

An200 questions

2003-02-18 by marcogardengreen <marcoyyz@tin.it>

Hallo!
I'm new on this list. I'm from Italy.

I bought yesterday an an200... and I already have two problems..
I red some past topics but I still haven't found an answer...
I hope you will be so kind to help me.

1) The editor I have in the cd needs XGworks... that doesn't work
with XP... What can I do ?
Is An1x edit the only software I can use with XP to edit my an200?
Shall I set some parameters to make it work with an200 ?

2) I used an an1x two years ago... I made some sounds I loved.
I still have the .mid with the dump.
I tried to load the dump in An1xEdit and it crashed!!! Any tips ?

Thanks for your answers!!!

Marco

You can download the XP patch for XGWorks from here:
http://www.yamahasynth.com/down/main.htm#GeneralTools

The SysEx ID header for the AN1x is completey different from that
of the AN200. The AN200 will NOT accept the .MID transfer
regardless of what application you use to dump from PC ->
AN200. As a workaround, I would suggest the following:

1. Upload a copy of your .MID file to the Files section - use the
AN1x Voices directory, please
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/files

2. Either myself, or someone else, can then download your file,
upload it to an AN1x, then retrieve it from the AN1x w/ AN1xEdit
and resave it as an .AN1, .ANP file or use the Export to .ANS
function to convert your voices back into a format in which
XGWorks can handle.

I don't think the Mac version of AN1xEdit handles the .ANS format
as well as the Win version but, either way, the objective is to at
least convert your .MID into a format either you can manipulate
further for use in the AN200.

Couple of further suggestions a) please .zip your .MID file before
uploading if possible - otherwise, don't worry about it. b) Make
certan you upload to the Files section - don't try to send your file
as an attachment to the list it will be rejected by the list policies
set at Yahoo! If you can do this in the next day I'll be happy to
knock this out for you - otherwise it has to wait until next weekend
;-)

Well... Don't ask me why but it worked.
I had a .all backup of an1x voices. (Cubase song).
I played it back and all the voices were loaded on the An200!!!

ANyway thanks for your proposal to upload my sounds on the
directory and to let someone to convert it for me.

To clarify my question that will follow I would like to say that I'm
a guitarist
and An200 is the first sinth I own.
The question is: what is the plus of having Free EG and Feedback

Well... I think that with An1xEdit you can't upload voices from
An200 to the editor itself. Is it right ? In this case I will have to
use
the An200 editor that (I guess) should be able to...

That's great for you! What's a .all file? I'm not familiar with that.
I'm really surprised the Base Address ID for the AN1x worked for
the AN200 - live and learn.

The FreeEG allows you to record, i.e., automate, paremter
adjustments for playback in real time. For example, you could
record adjustments to parameters such as Fliter Cutoff, VCO
Edge, VCF Attack and VCA Release so that they were saved as
part of the Voice and playback automatically upon a note on
event. Very cool.

The Feedback parameter take the signal output from the
Mixer->Filter->VCA and 'feeds' it back into the signal chain from
the Mixer - therefore creating a 'fatter' sound - good for leads and
basses.

Actually, I think you might be able to if AN1xEdit is in PLG150AN
Mode - found under the Setup menu.

> >It should work fine and covers all the params of your AN200..

The PLG150AN and AN200 do not have the same effects
selection as the AN1x - specifically, the VariEF/EQ will default to
Amp Sim.

.all is the file formata for Cubase VST songs.
What I did should not be so different from importing the .mid voice
backup to any sequencer and let it play...

Interesting. I will try step by step seing how it works on
the sounds...

I set the PLG150 mode the "request" button is disabled!!!

so is there no way to convert the .mid files to say an1x files? The an200 editor can read an1x files but no mid files. I would be forever grateful if someone would take the time to do it for me! ;-)

Have you tried to load your .MID file into your AN200? Marco
implies his Cubase .ALL file which contained an AN1x SysEx
dump loaded into his AN200. If you like, I'll be happy to load your
.MID into the AN1x and convert it into an .AN1 and/or .ANP file

i cant get it to work like that, however , if i could get the sysex program to talk directly to the an200 editor program i could translate them like that. The problem is I used to do this on pc, i am on a mac now, and i have no idea how to make to midi apps talk together.
I am posting the dump of my an200 , check out patch 9, it is the closest i can get to the pizz in insomnia without a chorus and without tweaking the vco's pitch. I think if i could add chorus and change the pitch on the vco's it would work out pretty close. I am told that patch he is playing is an jp-8000 , and as much as i like the 8080 i dont want to buy one when i want to get a virus down the road.

I tried to set up a bulk dump from SysEx452 using an IAC bus
from OMS and routed it to the input of ANExpert Editor - no joy. I
might try again later after I shutdown and restart. I've never used
IAC this way before - not certain if I should expect it to work.I've
only used it for simple MIDI Events like Note Events and CC's.

I tried a straight dump from SysEx to my AN1x - also, no joy. I was
expecting you would upload a .MID file not a .SYX file. I'm
assuming using a .MID file from a MIDI Seq treats the base
address ID of the AN200 vs. AN1x differently where as using
SysEx the AN1x ignores the AN200 base address ID :-( Can you
make a seperate .MID dump from your AN200. Also, it would be
helpful to know if the dump contains vices, patterns, or both.

Re: An200 questions (Insomnia pizz patch)

2003-06-28 by blazrodic

I've heard in several places that the Insomnia pizzicato patch (and
Sash's pizz sound - dunno what song - Encore un fois maybe?) is
actually from a Roland JV1080 type synth (or XP60) - so it's probably
a real strings based Roland treated rompler sound! So good luck
copying it on a VA.

According to some Magazine articles, the Patch that Rolo uses in
insomnia is from a Roland JD800 actually, and they effect up the
patch with reverb and the such...
