I would just like to mention there are no device specific stand alone editors for AN200 & DX200.There are only plugin editors available for XGworks.Which can produce problems if one is using i.e cubase. The standaone editors are specific for the AN/DX150plg cards. But if some knows were to obtain such device specific stand alone editor for the 200 series models, then please tell me.

There are standalone editors for AN200 and DX200 from Yamaha for Mac (OS 9).
That's all we have on the Mac platform. No XG Works to speak of - it was
only released in Japan I believe.

The PLG Boards have standalone device-specific editors as well, and are very
similar to the AN200/DX200 editors.

Remember, this isn't a Windows world. A couple of us use Macs. :)

Correct

Nope. XGedit is a standalone editor for XG devices (written and owned by
yours truly). XGworks is a Yamaha sequencer pacakage specialising in XG
support and providing plug-in editors.

These are available as plugins to XGworks or as standalone (operating
from a plugin hosting shell based on XGworks hosting code.) Standalone
versions are also available for Macintosh (I Think...but no XGwroks)

I know AN1xEdit wil work with both the PLG150AN and AN200 in
PLG150AN Edit but, obviously, there is no accomodating the
AN200 specific XG sounds or sequencers. So, for cross platform
purposes we should probably ask AN200 users who wish to
share their Voices to use .anp files created in AN1xEdit which we
call ALL use.

Correct.

Officially you should not redistribute any Yamaha software that is
bundled with hardware or made available directly from their web sites.
Similarly you should not redistribute Yamaha documents and FAQs made
available from Yamaha web sites. Instead you should link directly to the
relevant Yamaha site. This way the end user will always get the latest
version when posted.

Also if it's not available for free download from a Yamaha web site,
then its not free! So you definitely should not be redistributing.

An1xEdit is an exception. It was written by me under contract from
Yamaha and was distributed as freeware (from my web site and other
interested sites). However Yamaha retain all rights to the editor.

I hope that helps

Hi,

XG edit and AN1x edit are great editors! i have both
(XG edit registered version) and AN1x edit (freeware).

i use these programs daily and love them.

i wish these programs could come up as OPT panels in
cubase. Gary, is there any chance of this happening
soon? have you got any news for us?

thanks, elektro dan.

Today I downloaded a copy of AnExpertEditor (Mac) and spent
some time with it. For the most part, it worked just fine with my
AN1x - I assume the same would be true for the AN200?

Obviously the Variation FX section is limited to only the Amp Sim
effect - and the occasional PLG voice that made use of the PEG
Attack parameter would not translate correctly to the AN1x.
Furthermore, any PLG voice that referenced the Multisaw
translated to the valu of 'Mix' for the AN1x Osc1/2 Wave
parameter.

The AN Bulk Dump Receive command worked fine - but you do
have to initiate the Bulk Dump manually from the AN1x front
panel. The AN Bulk Dump Transmit command would NOT work
for me :-( Loading PLG voices to the AN1x was a one by one
affair.

The major problem I experienced was in regards to Opening and
Exporting .ANS files between AN1xEdit and AnExpertEditor.
Specifically:

I made a little bank of sounds in AN1xEdit and saved three
copies - one each as .AN1, .ANP, and .ANS. AnExpertEditor
would not open the .ANS version - the program issues error
message "Error occured. Forces the application to quit." and
that's exactly what happens next. AnExpertEditor is not capable of
'seeing' the .ANP format so I then opened the .AN1 voice bank
without incident.

I saved a small bank of sounds in AnExpertEditor as .ANS but
AN1xEdit woul not open this bank - the program simply issues
error message "Wrong File Version."

I used the freeware app TechTool Lite to examine the file types
and found the following:

.ANS files created in AnExpertEditor have a Creator and Type of
'YANX' and 'ANS_' where as .ANS files created in AN1xEditor
have a Creator and Type of 'AN1x' and 'ANS'. I experimented with
altering the Creator and Type of my .ANS file but with no success
(I'm sure there are more variables to attempt then I've tried so
far...)

So I guess the moral of the story is you might be able to use
AnExpertEditor with an AN200 but sharing files with this app is
likely to be unproductive - stick to AN1xEdit. Wonder if Yamaha is
considering an OS X compatible version of AnExpertEditor?

regards,

Jon

Okay, got it.

There are both stand alone and plugin (XGWorks) editors for the
PLG cards for Windows. And there are plugin (XGWorks) editors
for the xx200 series on Windows but no stand alone versions.

For Macintosh there are standalone editors for both the PLG and
xx200 series but no XGWorks.

And AN1xEdit works with AN1x, PLG and xxSeries cross platform.
I think we have a winner here ;-) ha ha ha

Good.

Did you catch my comments in the other post regarding .ANS file
compatibilty between AnExpertEditor <-> AN1xEditor? Any idea's
- user error or...

Well, I'd say were about 90% compliant then - aside from the
PDFs in the documentation directory here at Yahoo! Groups and
maybe their old Mac Visual Editor. I suppose I should clean that
up sometime...

Hhhm, some of the other lists may need to take notice of this...

It does help. Thank you. I'm undr the impression xx200 series
owners can acquire the bundled CDROMs from Yamaha -
probably for the cost of S+H. I'll try and confirm this info.
