With VA synths the presets usually don't stand out in a track as much as they do with a sample based synth (like the Korg AI2 synths who's presets were so overused). So, if you like the sound of a preset then use it... :-)

Ah, i see. :) What are some other synths/presets that have been
overused? I've heard Sash! has made it into his "trademark" to get
his hands on the synths early and then using (nothing but) presets
before anyone else.... clever guy...

Hi all!

It's a bit of an odd one this- Where you could easily be slammed for using a
preset (and yes- Europe's Final Countdown was probably one of the worst and
most irritating records I've ever heard!)- has anybody stopped to think about
the ONLY sound obtainable from a Fender Piano or a Hohner D6 etc? That's
incredibly over used- but the fender has one of the lushest sounds! Things
like 808's and 909's to be are just new percussives in a whole new modern
orchestra (without sounding too pompous).

I don't think it is the preset's fault, just the mind behind it. Synthesisers
(IMO) should have never had keyboards put on them in the first place - (I
think both Don Buchla and Peter Zinovieff got it right from day one!)
