Hi All,

Just thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Gary and I just
bought an AN1X today. I love it to bits already! One thing though,
how do I find out which version of the Operating System I have.

Gary.

Hi all,

I've just joined this list, having bought myself an AN1x yesterday.
Superb synth! I've been playing with the editor software which works a
treat.

Aside from the AN1x I have a microkorg, novation nova, electribe EM-1
and a Kaoss Pad3. My computer runs linux, but I can run windows VSTs
and the AN1x editor using the wine "emulator". Aside from using linux
software I run Reaper to host my VSTs.

Welcome to the club !
you'll meet interesting and sometimes funny people, mostly music and
electronics enthusiasts. Have a look at :
http://www.virb.com/von_haulshoven
for example, to see what you can do with your AN1x. OK, Eppie uses other
instruments too, but not a lot, no computer, only a hardware sequencer
and a multitrack recorder to produce his impressive reincarnations of
Tangerine Dream.
My own gear : AN1x (of course), Casio CZ and Kawa\ufffd K1 synths, Red Sound*
"Elevata" and Evolution* EVS1 expanders plus an ART multi effect rack.
All purchased second hand for quite nothing : they were too old to be
expensive and not enough to be collector items. My musical influences
for keyboards : progressive rock, the early synth groups like Tangerine
Dream, Kraftwerk .... and, despite i'm french, not J.M. Jarre ! OK, J.M.
Jarre is not a bad musician at all, but too obviously commercial for my
taste; in the same kind i rather like Vangelis.
Cheers
J.F.
* 2 british small companies, very inventive but now out of the synth
business. Today Evolution is only an entry level MIDI master keyboards
manufacturer and Red Sound produces only DJ equipment.

Welcome to the list. You'll find the AN1X records well. Fits in the mix
quite nice and sounds like a synthesizer. The only real problem with
the synth is the time I've wasted making flying saucer noises instead
of practicing.

1. Turn OFF the power.
2. Press and hold the [0], [-] and [+] buttons down simultaneously
while turning ON the power.

But what are the changes between 1.01, 1.02 and 1.04???

1.04 OS corrects an erroneous 'low voltage' warning which can occur prematurely and also
corrects the audio response when modulating the depth, i.e., return, of delay effects. There
were no new features introduced with 1.04. There has been discussion on the list that
Yamaha is no longer distributing the OS update EPROM, but you could always call/email
Yamaha Customer support to verify.

Crazy Idea...

2007-10-02 by Jesse Buehler

Does anyone know if a Hendheld PC such a a NEC mobilepro 900, can run windows apps? I wasthinking that with a usb MIDI unit, it would make a cool synth editor that can be moved to different synths. I currently have a an200 as well as a nord modular, both of which have editors that are non functional in OSX.

Hello !
Back in the past months some of us were wondering about the differences
between the different releases of the O.S.... I believe there is no
obvious difference for most of the users, just the compatibility with
other musical or computer stuff and maybe some bugs corrected, if any...
Some others (as me) were trying to get the dump of the last issue EEPROM
to "burn" one, assuming that Yamaha does no longer support the AN1x,
that we can use (at work or at home) an EEPROM programmer and the blank
EEPROM is an industry standard. What's new about that ?

Why not just get a Regelwerk, Kenton, or Novation SL?

I can't answer your question, but as an aside, there's a beta version
of Clavia's original Nord Modular editor working under OSX. It can be
found under
<http://www.dontcrack.com/freeware/downloads.php/id/2826/software/
Nord-Modular-Editor/>
as well as on the official clavia site (under downloads, and then at
the end of the page).
This beta has a few (non-critical) bugs and is not UB, but still very
usable IMO.

Another editor for the Modular can be found here:
<http://nmedit.sourceforge.net/>
Nomad is a java-based open source multi-platform editor. It still
lacks some functionality, so I haven't used it much yet, but it's a
promising project.

All of the Yamaha AN editors will run under Classic on a G5 PPC.
Obviously none of these are Universal Binary but you could always
run them under Windows using Bootcamp on your MacTel PPC.

And 2nd hand G3 or G4 PPC's & Powerbooks can be had for a song on
eBay...

Jon
