Had a blast last night. The Space Animals played at a birthday party.
Outdoors. Food. 2 kegs. I was a little nervous because the band
before us was very good. Professional. They had a female keyboard
player with this fancy 88 key Korg brand new with maple end pieces.
Very slick. We had two drummer so Tommy decided to play congas. A
friend of a friend had his bass and he wanted to sit in. Then crazy
Richard showed up with his timbales and cowbells. And we want to play
some Dead before we get to the original stuff right? We do? Cool, I
guess.

None of these guys know the songs but it's only rock and roll right?
Well let me tell you what a joy it is to play with top notch
musicians. It was divine. Just magic. The band stopping and starting
on a dime, slowing down, speeding up, getting quiet building up to a
crescendo. Very cool to hear a timbale solo in the middle of a blues
rock rave up.

Now since the previous band had a keyboard player, I had to show them
what the old stuff could do so I had all these sounds coming out of
the synth, mostly getting the filter to self oscilate and playing it
with the ribbon controller, adding echo, and playing occasional weird
jazz chords like 4ths and stuff. We did all sorts of extended jams so
I could just make up this poetry to recite about poodles and goddess,
and aliens and stuff. And of course we're outside on a beautiful fall
evening with pretty young ladies dancing and little kids and dogs
running around. It's a huge compliment that musicians of that caliber
would want to play with us.

Hi Jimmy!
happy?
I am too... for you! Sometimes playing music can lead to memorable jams
with others groups or musicians.
Cheers.
