Digital popping noise problem with AN1x

Digital popping noise problem with AN1x

2002-03-02 by kibocheeks

My AN1x has recently started to make horrid digital popping noises on
occasion when switched on. It's usually solved by switching the thing off
and then on again. Has anyone else had similar problems? Is my AN1x on it's
way out? Or is this a known 'issue'?

It still works fine most of the time, but I'm worried that this could be the
beginning of the end...

Yes, I had that happen. It seems to go away on mine after it has been on
for a couple minutes. Hasn't happened at all recently.

This is a known issue. I had mine repaired a couple of years
ago. Here's the write up on my experience:

I don't think it's the beginning of the end for your AN1x - but the
audio dropouts will probably become more frequent over time.

Hey,

I also had the popping problem, and I've noticed that it occurs when the
synth isn't 'warmed up yet' on patches with scene morping (both leds above
mod wheel) is turned on. I 've had it repaired at no cost y yamaha, (the
repair service tried to bill me though, but I let them call the yamaha
office )

kind regards,
Raf

My experience is similar. The popping happened on cold days when the
AN1X fired up on any patch with scene morphing. Morph patches could
be played successfully, as long as the AN1X powered up to a patch
that didn't have scene morphing. To solve the problem, none of my
patches are stored as "scene morph" patches. I just toggle the scene-
morph on, after firing up the machine.

Haven't experienced any recurrence of the problem in the two years
since I made the change. Hoping this works for you,

Jerry

Good for you! Congratulations.

I don't understand why more users don't do the same? Yamaha
have always seemed perfectly reasonable to me in my dealings
with them.
