Hi guys, I have an AN1x that is controlling my JP-8080 and I cannot figure out how to shut off the program change commands the AN1x is sending the JP. Whenever I change an AN1x patch the JP also changes its patch which is annoying. Could anyone please give me some advice on how to remedy this. Thanks in advance. -dysonn

Hi Dysonn, AFAIK, one can't disable program change from the AN1x, however, on the JP-8080, under "MIDI" there's an option called "Tx/Rx ProgChg Sw". Switch this off and the JP-8080 will now ignore any program changes. Are you working with a sequencer? If so, I'd leave the JP-8080 Program Change Switch on, and be sure to not change presets on the AN1x while working/recording/editing a JP-8080 sequence. Maybe you have a need to control both synths from the AN1x at the same time(?), but this is what I'd do. Hope that helps. Phil

Hi Phil, Thanks for the input but I already tried that and it doesn't work, I don't know why but it just doesn't. It's as if the An1x completely ignores the JP's settings. If you have any other ideas please post them. Thanks again. It's as if the An1x completely > ignores the JP's settings. Actually, based on your description, it's the other way around. The AN1x has nothing to do with how your JP responds to program change commands. The AN1x is dutifully transmitting program change commands as it should. The only option on the AN1x which would affect the transmission of MIDI Events is the MIDI Tx Ch setting - which can be set to one of sixteen channels or OFF. The JP series supports two layers per sound - 'tones', right? Are there independent MIDI Rx Channnels for each 'tone'? If so, it's possible you need to disable the program change receive for BOTH tones in your JP patches. One would think this would be a global setting but it is possible Roland limited it to a per patch basis - stranger things have happened. Could you please provide more details regarding your set-up. Are you simply using AN1x MIDI Out --> JP MIDI In or are you using a MIDI patch bay/interface in conjunction with a software sequencer? regards, Jon

If you exhaust all menu-driven methods of trying to get the JP-8080 to ignore the AN1x commands, I sell a box by MIDI Solutions called the Router that can fix you right up by killing the program change messages from the AN1x, among other things. I won't tie up the list with a sales pitch; please contact me offline for details. Hi there again Dysonn, That does seem weird. I just tried it, and works fine ie. no program preset change on the JP-8080 from the AN1x. What input are you using on the JP-8080? MIDI IN or REMOTE KBD IN? If you're using the latter (REMOTE KBD IN), then that may be the problem. It appears that input has been designed to have its own keyboard or sequencer channel devoted to it. It seems one can't disable program changes received at that port. How frustrating!!! Unfortunately, that only leaves you a couple of options: - Use MIDI IN (not Remote Kbd In) but lose the layered 'performance' presets and arps. - Purchase another MIDI controller keyboard solely for the JP-8080 for live use. (N.B. If you're working with a sequencer, you can connect both ports and send to either port as required without a drama, but be wary of MIDI feedback loops ie. ensure the Remote Kbd In is set in the sequencer to receive from your controller/sequencer, and not set to 'All' or 'Any' and therefore receiving from everything in your studio - including the JP-8080 and hence the loop). Not the best solutions, but at least either would get you out of trouble. I've always wished I could switch off 'aftertouch' on the AN1x, but no can do there either. By the way, are you on the JP-8000/8080 lists at www.yahoogroups.com ? Phil -- Volume_One available now www.enigmarecords.com.au

Thanks guys, but I don't want to pay $90 for a slight inconvenience. Thanks anyway. --- In AN1x-list@y..., Phil <accession@o...> wrote: > BINGO!!! > > There's your solution! Thanks again Phil, I tried the remote kbd thing, it does work in terms of shutting off the program change but then it disables the arp and performance playback as you mentioned. I'll just have to suffer. I don't use a sequencer, all audio. Anyway, I'm not part of the JP group. Or at least I don't think I am. I may have signed up at a certain point in time. Thanks again. --Dysonn --- In AN1x-list@y..., Phil <accession@o...> wrote: > Hi there again Dysonn, > > That does seem weird.
