gurgle swoosh

gurgle swoosh

2000-04-29 by Jerry A

Hey fellas:

I was reading an old article from Future Music called Analog Madness.
Basically a tutorial on making gurgles and swooshes with a (real)
analog synth. Well, I started following their instructions and was
able to get most of it on the AN1x.

I started to get analog programming ideas and wondering if any of you
are interested in colloborating on noises. (I am typically more
comfortable changing waveforms than programming.)

Most of the sounds were made by modulating a self-oscillating filter.
There an1x filter was a little more polite than whatever synth they
were using for the demo. Also the LFO's are more gurgly than zappy at
high speed. I got slightly better results simulating a high speed LFO
with the free eg than using the lfo.

Anybody interested in fooling around with bizarre sounds?

Cheers,

Jerry

Sounds like a fun idea. I'm game. Why don't you upload an
example...I've think I've got something along those lines - but maybe
not quite what you're after.

Go to the Files section of the AN1x list here at eGroups and help
yourself to the Voices, doc, utilities and applications:

Congratulations on getting a good piece of gear at a great price! It's
a terrific synth and I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Tell me something . . .where can i find this article .
. .can i find it on the net too . . .?
Sound on sound features some articles on the net from
time to time. It's interesting

Me too but it is an idea . . .why trying to find an
specific type sample . . . if you can make your own
kind of strange sounding sound.

Count me in. . . . interesting ;)

I looked at their web site and couldn't find it. The article is in
issue 73 (September 1998) and it really got me thinking about
synthesis. (Having spent most of my time with romplers it is a little
unintuitive to make a patch where the filter is the primary sound
source.)
Anyway, I am just starting to get my feet wet and enjoying it. I'll
post what I have. I'll put some patch descriptions as well (about as
close as I can get to re-writing the article without doing so).It may
not be useful, but it was a lot of fun doing it.

Cheers,

Jerry

Well I got the "Analog Madness" patches up. I hope you like them.
They were a lot of fun to do. Some brief patch descriptions are
included.

Well...... I guess its time to find those old petshop boys cd's
again.....

Cheers,

Jerry

Hi all!

Can anyone give me a valid link to this article ("Analog Madness",
apparently in Future Music issue #73.

BTW I did do the search for the article at futuremusic.co.uk
Many thanks!

Future Music articles re: Analogue Programing / AN1x

2001-10-05 by Phil

Hi all,

There was a recent request on the list for an old FM article on analogue
programming. I've since been in touch with FM's webmaster to add it to the
archives:

http://www.futuremusic.co.uk/fm_mmusic.asp?ID=4800&PageNo=1

Let me know if that's what you were looking for. It's the basic article and
unfortunately doesn't include the box-outs, but hopefully it still inspires
some ideas.

Also, somebody was asking about the AN1x review. It was only included as
part of a synth round-up, so it's a little brief, but they can rest assured
that it did in fact go to print, and was not part of any Roland vs Yamaha
conspiracy:

http://www.futuremusic.co.uk/fm_gear.asp?ID=1633

Please let me know if there were any other FM articles you particularly
wanted to look at and I'll see what I can do.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Phil

Many thanks, Phil. I'll tack these onto the Bookmarks for future
reference.

While we're on the suject, here the links to the PLG150AN and AN1x
reviews from that "other" British magazine. What's it called again? ;-)
