AN200 review

2001-05-01 by Thomas

On sonicstate is a nice review of the AN200.

http://www.sonicstate.com/articles/article.cfm?page=5&id=21

I had to smile when i read it, because at the end it says: "...you
have an impressive and contemporary sounding synth which will rapidly
gain the interest it deserves."

Well, didn´t we know thís already? It seems because of that the AN1x
might become a cult-synth, if it isn´t already one...

But in this sense i am wondering if it is possible to use the AN200
editsoftware with the AN1x...

Sounds like they took that from the Yamah press release verbatim.

It sounds more impressive in Japanese. The effect is lost in the translation :)

Hmmm... I'm tempted to see if I can download the software for the hell of
it...but it occured to me as to why one would want to use the AN200
software with the An1x.

You probably can, but I'm not too sure you want to...

From the images at sonicstate, it looks very much like the editor for the
PLG150-AN. For starters, that editor has to run inside XGWorks (or XGWorks
lite, which also comes bundeled with the PLG). Very funny to have two
sequencers running at once, since XGWorks is utterly unusable as a
sequencer, compared to Cubase. However, I'm not sure the AN200-editor has to
be run inside XGWorks.

Apart from the XGWorks problem, it seems to me the PLG150-editor is limited
in functionality. For instance, where did the sinewave for OSC2 go? Looks
like that one is missing in the AN200-editor as well.

I used the PLG150-editor for five minutes or so, then I switched to
AN1x-edit. Although I feel the layout of the "original" PLG150 editor is a
bit clearer that that of AN1x-edit, I think AN1x-edit is much more
competent, and in the long run, easier to work with once you get a hang of
how the different controls interact.

Just my 2...

Well, to find this out, you need to try out the software, right?
but i am not sure if it is freeware, like AN1x-Edit...

Hm, i don´t think that it is the same as the PLG150-edit for XG-Works.
On www.amazona.de is a test of the DX200 including the editor. It
says that it is a stand alone software. Maybe they fixed the OSC2-bug
in AN200-edit.
I guess we have to wait, until someone is on the list and willing to
tell.

Using plg and sw1000xg together....(?)

2001-05-04 by Jordi Mayor

Hi there..!!

My name is Jordi. First of all, I would like to explain my problem.
Basically, I've the SW1000XG + PLG150-AN. I've 4 synts more, but all is
going ok on my PC. The Problem is in using PLG + SW1000xg.

According with Gary (thanks for your superb work!!), the plg uses a part of
the sw1000xg. Well, I've configured two Hubi's midi cable LB1 <-> Sw1000xg 1
Synth and the Lb2 <-> Sw1000xg 2. First question: Have I must any care with
filter Midi msgs an so on in the Hubi's configuration?? (Think about I would
to record the system Exclusive on realtime over CakeWalk (next with sonar xl
when avaiable)).

Second question. I like to use the AN1Xedit of Gary. Well, When I load a
bank, How can I use the sounds of the bank loaded??. I can hear the plg on
cake, but when i use the patch change, I hear the default patches again...
What's wrong on my configuration??.

Third (and last!! ;-)). If anybody is using the system PLG+SW1000+Cake
correctly, I would like to get VERY DETAILED CONFIG about the Midi system,
including Hubi's and son on...

Many thanks in advance to all people that is making this e-group
possible....

Bye!!

Please read the Cakewalk + PLG150 articles from Gary G. in the Tips &
Tricks directory http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/files/
Tips%20and%20Tricks/

This is a good place to start.

See the Tips & Tricks and please search the archive - this not an
uncommon topic but since I don't use either I can't reiterate any of
the solution from memory.
